Hey everyone
Sorry I didn't get on here and update on Tuesday after Connor's surgery. It's been a crazy and exhausting couple of days. Connor's surgery went as well as can be expected. The dr said he wins the biggest tonsils and adnoids of the month award. He slept for a good little while on Tuesday and when he woke up he acted as if nothing in the world had happened. He ate and ate and ate all night. We tried getting him to take some pain medicine before bed knowing that he would be hurting when he woke up but he has been flat out refusing any medicine. It was extremely odd to not hear him snore like a sailor ALL NIGHT LONG. For the first time since he was like 4 months old he can breathe while sleeping with his mouth shut and even thought he was laying right beside me I could barely hear him. So odd, but so so nice!
Yesterday was a bit rougher. He woke up in pain but refusing any medicine again. He was running a fever and I was more worried about getting meds in him for that than pain. We finally had to pry his mouth open and force it down his troat. He was a little funny on the hydracodone suspension and was practically bouncing off the walls. We battled the fever all day yesterday and he really didn't eat much. I think it was more because he just overall felt lousy than being in pain. He did halfway willingly take motrin last night and slept fairly well.
Right now I can tell he's not feeling too well but he's not running a fever...yet, so I'm hoping today is better than yesterday. My 'I'm a terrible parent, how on earth could I ever do this to my child, he's going to hate me for life' feeling is starting to wear off because I can already see the positive effects of his surgery but it's still hard seeing him hurt and not feel good because of a decision that I made for him. Please keep praying that he continues to recover so well.
Oh, and if you or child you know had this done around 3 years old, how long before your/their voice sounds normal again. He does not sound like the same child at all and at times it can be quite difficult to understand him.
Re: On the mend
Poor little guy.
I'm so glad that everything went well though and he is doing better.
Can you seek some motrin in a small cup of ice-cream? 2-1 soother right there!
6 IUIs,IVF #1 w/ICSI = BFP!
Betas, 332 & 856 = twins!
Our baby girl is here!
I know it's different in adults than kids, but i had mine out about 2 years ago and it was about 4-5 days before I sounded normal again.
Also, I know everyone thinks ice cream is fantastic for when you have your tonsils out, but I was advised against it as was a close friend when her kids had theirs out... ice cream and other things that are a thicker consistency coat the throat and encourage coughing and mucus/phlegm... not something you want when your throat is that sore.
