Cloth Diapering

Meconium Poo...

So this time around I'm planning on CDing once we get home (maybe at the birthing center...). I haven't had much experience with CDs and meconium since we used disposables until it was gone with DS (so for like 4 days).

Should I do anything different when washing the diaps or can I just throw them all in the wash like regular EBF poo?

Re: Meconium Poo...

  • obviously i don't know if it's true, since I haven't done this before, but I was told mec really stains and doesn't come out well. We got some bummis disposable liners for the meconium stage.

  • We pre-rinsed the meconium, then washed with CD safe detergent.  Contrary to popular belief, meconium does NOT stain diapers anymore than EBF or any other poo.  Just sun dry your CDs, and the stains will come out.  I still have my baby's PFs from the NB stage (we CD'ed as soon as we got home from the hospital), and they still look like new.  We still use them as inserts and burp cloths.
