Hi ladies! This morning I had my first appointment and it went very well. They tentatively adjusted my EDD to 7.8.11 (instead of 7.6.11) but will give me a more definite date after my ultrasound with the specialist. The doctor was able to see (via vaginal ultrasound) the gestational sac and yolk sac. She wasn't able to detect much else at this point however I will be scheduled an ultrasound with a specialist within the next week and a half. They're equipment is far more high tech.
She also informed me that I am considered a "high risk pregnancy" due to my hypertension. I unfortunately have hypertension and have to take medication to control it. It's really no fault of my own, blame it on my genetic make up. Because of this I will have more appointments and also be seen by a specialist. Although I'm a little worried, I'm glad that my pregnancy will be monitored well.
She informed me that I was not allowed to engage in even moderate exercise due to my history of hypertension and miscarriage. I'm super anxious about this. I want to make sure the baby is healthy but I also want to be able to be strong and healthy enough to actual push him/her out! She did say I could walk leisurely but not to power walk or anything like that. I really need to get control of my diet now.
Oh and it looks like I will have to tell my job earlier than I wanted to. I work for a hospital and we are mandated to get the flu vaccine. The deadline for the vaccine is the end of this month and my doctor does not want me to get it until I'm out of my 1st trimester.
But other than all that it went well! Lol. I am just so glad that LO appears to be developing on schedule and that I'm still pregnant. Now I have another 1.5-2 weeks to wait and anticipate hearing their heartbeat. How exciting! I can't wait.
I know this was long. Sorry. I'm just so happy to have people to share this news with!
Thanks Aubs for the shout out!!
Re: First Appointment Update!
Great news!!!
Any more info the flu vaccine and why it's bad in the first tri? I got it a few days before I got my BFP.....
BFP #3 via cancelled IUI ~ C (2lb 3oz; HELLP) 5/16/11
BFP #4 via the natural (free!) way ~ E (8lb 11oz) 9/13/12
YAY! It's about time we had some GOOD news around here! Congrats!
And FWIW - I didn't exercise AT ALL with pregnancy #1 and I was able to push her out with no problem.
That's wonderful news! My doctor also won't administer the flu shot until after the first tri is over. I wasn't given a reason though.
Now I am dying to go to my first appointment knowing that I won't even get an u/s then. Gah!
Congratulations on the good appointment! Hopefully there are many more to come for the ladies here.
I got my flu shot two days after my BFP, at 3w5d. When I went in for my first appointment with the nurse she told me to get it as soon as I could.

Happy to hear your good news! Sorry about the hypertension and exercise restrictions, but as you said the silver lining is more monitoring. And leisurely walks can be a nice stress reducer... If it was me I would try to tell myself that I have the rest of your life to exercise as much as I want, these next 9 months are about baking a healthy little bun
