help with middle name

Ok, I TRIED to make a clicky poll, but the bump doesn't want to let me. I have a feeling it's the new security settings FI put on our computers... Anyway, I am looking for opinions. Help me out ladies. We are giving Sarah my name as her middle name. I spell it Bridgett. There are like 30 ways to spell my name! Bridgette, Bridget, Brigitte, are just a few. I figured it would be fun to spell it the Celtic way, Brigid. We had agreed on this, but FI is now saying he'd rather spell it Bridgett, since she's being named after me. Ultimately, he's leaving it up to me. I can't decide, so I need your help! Thoughts? Again, sorry no clicky poll.

Re: help with middle name

  • I've never seen it spelled the Celtic way, so it looks a little odd to me.  I personally prefer Bridgett over Brigid.  Good luck with you decision!

  • I like having it spelled the way you spell (Bridgett) it for two reasons. One, because it's after you like your DH said and the other because I prefer that spelling. I like Brigid, but it makes me want to pronounce it differently for some reason.

  • I personally don't like the way Brigid looks and not everyone is going to pronounce it Bridget, I wouldn't have known that it was pronounced the same way as Bridget..I would have assumed there was a 'D' sound at the end. I also might be very clueless and it would be obvious to other people Embarrassed. I would go with the same spelling that you use.

  • We are using my grandmother's maiden name and my husband's middle name for our boy and we are using the spellings that they used. Since you are using your own name I think you should use whatever spelling you like. Personally, I like Bridgett over Brigid.

  • I actually prefer Brigid over Bridgett because, shocker, DH and I are an Irish/Scottish couple :)

We debated over using Padrig vs. Patrick for the middle name if the baby turns out to be a Liam and not a ____ (insert random girl's name).

One caveat... she IS being named after you, which makes changing the spelling a little weird.
