Indiana Babies

Children's Museum

Is it worth the trip for a one year old??    DH are debating on taking Clark there on his actual birthday ...party is the weekend before his actual bday.  I would rather take him to the zoo but I know the weather will be too chilly and not fun to deal with.  Trying to think of things for us to do.

  • Absolutely.

  • DH and I have both been there before but never with Clark.  Not sure how he'll do by going between naps but I guess we'll give it a try!

  • It'll be fun.  Did you guys get the membership back when it was 1/2 off?

No..not sure if it would have been worth it or not.   Clark will get in free since he is only 1 and I think I saw on their website we would be 15 a piece?!?!

  • If you don't have a pass, no, I don't think it's worth it. There isn't only 1 area a 1 yo can really do anything.

I think it would be better if you waited for a free day (Christmas eve, MLK Jr day, etc) and take him then and see if he likes it.

  • It's fun but, I don't think I would pay to go if I didn't have a pass.
  • Absolutely.  We have a membership so we have been going quite a bit and Zander loves it.  They have a special place just for kids under 5.  He spent over an hour and a half in there one time and still loves that place.  He also loves the carousel and he has just as much fun going to the other exhibits just to explore and point at things as the older kids we've gone with (4 and 8 years old).  For example, he may not be "learning" about dinosaurs at the dinosaur exhibit, but he still loves it and exploring is learning in his own way.

Yeah that's why we thought it was worth it for the membership.  At half off it was $60 meaning if DH and I took Mads twice in a year it paid for itself.

We got it as a gift so  we paid the $25 for the plus two.  It's been great and we've already used it more than we would have paid to buy single day admission.

This. They can spend all day in the play scape area, however they enjoy all the other exhibits too. They LOVE the dinosaur exhibits and have actually learned from it too. They also enjoy the science works exhibit too.

I agree with both of these. But, (call me cheap) I wouldn't pay $30 to take my 1 yo, who would have just as much fun throwing leaves around in our yard as looking at the other exhibits (other than playscape). However, I would put that $30 towards a membership instead of a 1 time visit to get more for my buck. Because over the course of the year, the child will love the museum more and more every time they go. I think there is a world of difference between an 18month old child going to the museum and a 12 month old

Something to think about ....we would be going for his 1 year birthday - it's more about the idea of the 3 of us going to some where to celebrate his actual bday.  But like you said we could just stay home and enjoy the day as well!

  •  We went and spent an hour and half and K and I were pretty much done.  I wouldn't want to pay that much for so little time.  I think she had fun but I would just wait for a free day to give it a try and find something else to do on his birthday.
  • Absolutely.  We took Sam when he was 10 months old, and he LOVED it!  We spent most of our time in the playscape area, but he loved the other exhibits, esp. the dinosaurs.
