Home Doppler Question

I just got my home doppler in the mail today and I am so excited to go home and try it out, but I am wondering if anyone has any advice on finding the baby's hb?

I am afraid I might not be able to find it because I am not thin. The doctor couldn't find it at our 10 week appointment but I am almost 13 weeks so I am hoping for the best.

The doppler came with gel so I think I have everything I need.

TIA.

Re: Home Doppler Question

  • Lie flat on your back... start with the wand way down by your pelvic bone.  Push a little hard and glide it around very slowly.  You can leave it in one spot and kind of angle it around in a circular motion, too.  I've found that if I hear gurgly noises or a sound like wind blowing through the trees (baby  moving/"placenta noises") the baby's heartbeat will be nearby.

Don't worry if you can't find it!  Sometimes it's easier to find than others.

  • I am far from thin and first found the h/b at 9w4d.

Start very low, right above your pubic bone and in the center. I would start in one spot, tilt the wand in every direction possible (angled up, down, etc.) and if nothing, move slowly to the right and so on.

You'll definitely hear your heartbeat and lots of swoshing. The babys h/b is super easy to pick out if you find it.

I don't know why but I have the easist time finding it in the morning. Also, some ladies say having a full bladder helps.

I would say the same thing....also if you hear a WHOOSH WHOOSH - that is your hb.  If you hear a galloping sound, that is baby.

  • I always have to tilt the wand toward my pelvic bone to find it.  So that the wand is kind of sitting on my belly at an angle.  Today it was about halfway between my belly button and pelvic bone.  And if you can't find it, don't panic.  Sometimes it can take awhile!

  • Don't forget batteries!  Mine uses AAA and I didn't have any so I had to run out to get them and I was so frustrated because I just wanted to hear the baby's HB that second!
