My online birth class said that the eye ointment that they give the babies after birth is erythromiacin (sp?).  I am very allergic to this and asked the doctor today if the baby would have an issue with that since I'm allergic.  He said no worries, it's not something that's passed on to the baby (which, I am sure I knew this, I just wanted to double check!).  So I just thought I'd pass that along incase any of you ladies are in the same boat

this. my mom (and her sister, and their dad) is allergic to penecillin (sp?) and my sister is the only one of us kids that is also allergic - so bad that even a little could kill her. in your case I'd rather be safe...

Thanks so much for posting. I am extremely allergic to it as well and it makes me break all out in hives. I will definitely be talking to my doctor about it.
