Call or Wait it out...

Well if you haven't seen any of my other posts...I'm extremely nauseated have been since about 5 weeks and it seems to get worse by the day. I'm in a conference room at work right now, but I can smell someone's microwave lunch warmed up and am dry heaving. I had my first appointment yesterday and the dr. said its good that I'm so sick because the chance of miscarriage reduces greatly with women who are extremely ill, and that if this continues I can call him back and get some meds to help ease the nausea...but he wanted me to try to wait it out till week 10....I was so sick this morning I was laying in bed crying because I'm just so sick....Part of me is scared to get the meds cause then I won't have a major symptom that reminds me I'm prego, but at this point my work is suffering as I'm so sick 24/7, at this point just 30 minutes of relief would be great.....advice anyone?

  • I've never heard that "less chance of m/c with illness" your doc mentioned.  My friend had severe m/s and miscarried at 22 weeks.  I never got ill and had my daughter.

Anyways, there's no need to be suffering needlessly.  If the m/s is impacting your ability to work you should ask your doc what you can take either OTC or from a prescription.

  • You sound miserable - call the office and ask for a prescription for Zofran or something like it.

    I hope you feel better!

I agree.  Are you trying things like ginger ale, water w/lemon, vitamin B6, stuff like that?

This. Don't suffer for anything. Call the doctor and see waht you can take or have them call in a prescription for you somewhere. Just have your pharmacy # ready.

  • Definitely call. I went to see the dr because I've been having mild fevers for the past two days, and m/s that's been lasting all day and night for the last few days. I'm going for a follow up with my OB on Thursday because like you I just can't function being this sick all the time.

  • Zofran, doesn't stop you from feeling sick.  It just stops you from throwing up.  Also if you do take it, I would recommend taking colace with it.  If you don't you will soon go for throwing up all the time, to not being able to poop.

I would call your dr, to see if they have any ideas.  Have you tried anything for it yet?

  • I've tried just about all the home remedies I can think of...ginger...lemon drops...toast before out of bed...small meals all day....cheerios all day...tums, pepcid complete, nothing stops this nausea, except once i finally fall asleep im not nauseated but even when I wake up to pee at 2 am as soon as I'm awake I'm dry heaving....any other ideas I'm open to trying....

Have you tried seabands?  You can pick them up at any drug store, people use them to avoid motion sickness.  I was really sick with my DS and they helped some.  I ended up on Zofran, but it didn't really solve the problem.  I was just able to keep food down.

  • Don't suffer - you need to be able to eat so that your baby gets the nutrients that it needs!
