Aldi recs..

FYI for anyone too afraid to try their diapers (like I almost was!) They're actually pretty decent (esp for $5 per package!). They're kind of similar to Target diapers. I don't think I'd trust them for overnight, but otherwise, they've been fine for us! Just thought I'd share. :-)

Also a new staple for us from Aldi--frozen popcorn chicken. They're like nuggets, but smaller, and you can pop them in the microwave (which I guess you can with nuggets too, but we always did those in the toaster oven). Holly devoured them. Not the healthiest idea ever probably, but they're all white meat at least (and the ingredients/nutritional info weren't bad, honestly), and worked great for a quick meal!

Also, Holly loves their store brand cheerios, and "sharks" crackers.

We've really liked their bacon wrapped beef tenderloins--only $1.79 apiece!!! They're very tasty. Their refrigerated salsa is also great. I've been pleased with their dishwasher detergent too. I'm sure I'm forgetting something...

Whoever encouraged me to give Aldi a second chance gets my sincere thanks. I'm sold this time around. hehe. :-) I know we've posted this before, but what other good stuff am I missing. What are your faves?

Re: Aldi recs..

  • I'm also an Aldi fan! I've bought some of their baking supplies, I LOVE their BBQ potato chips, their take-n-bake pizza is just as good as anywhere else I've tried. I've bought lots of produce from them - the prices & quality are great (as long as you're OK w/ non-organic).

I wish there was one closer to me!

  • I've been trying to cut back on our grocery bill, so I just went this week, for the 2nd time!  I like their Fit&Active stuff.....Cereal bars, chocolate covered raisins, dried fruit, etc.  Also their fresh veggies are a great deal - paper towels are pretty decent too!

  • Oh my...you had me at $1.79 bacon wrapped beef tenderloins. I have never been before, but I think a trip has just been added to my agenda this week! I've been trying to cut way back on my grocery bill, and this mama is desperate for some red meat!

You can definitely cut way back there!

Absolutely check it out then! They've got other meats, but these are our faves! We've grilled them, and baked them in the oven, and they're great.

Bring a quarter for the shopping carts, and bring your own bags. :-)

  • I buy everything you mentioned including their diapers!  I am in love with their refrigerated salsa and the jar salsa isn't as good, but it's comparable to a jar salsa you get in a regular grocery store.

I also like the pita chips, hummus (garlic lovers!!!), fit and active ice cream sandwiches (think skinny cow brand), multigrain bread (so much cheaper than g. store and very yummy), tortilla chips (.99 per bag-if I remember correctly), and the lemon lime soda (I think it's better than Sprite).  The F&A chocolate soy milk is delish.  The little carrots are only .99 per bag (!!). Eggs and milk are normally cheaper than the g. store and I get mine there regularly.

I've also gotten frozen tilapia and cod there.  A few weeks ago, they had a special on the Grandessa stuffed tilapia which is yummy.

Definitely take a look at the "Special Offers" in their frozen section.  That's where I find the limited time stuff that's usually really good prices for name brand things or specialty items.

There hasn't been much that I've gotten there that we aren't pleased with.  I used to get their green beans, but DH commented that he's not a fan so I stick to Del Monte for those now.  But that's seriously the only thing I can think of that we haven't really liked.

ETA.  I just thought of this rec, the Fiber Now bars.  I haven't had a Fiber One bar in years so I can't really compare.  But I think these are really good and I think the name is hilarious.

This makes me sad  b/c as you know my little clan and I are going to move into your area eventually and I will miss being near an Aldi.  I've got one 10 minutes away (or less depending on traffic) from me.  It's obviously not a deal breaker though (on moving).  : )  Where is the closest one to you anyways?

It's not terribly far - on Peter's Creek Pkwy, it's not on my regular route in Winston (Hanes Mall & Thruway area) and I just don't get over there often. I can get there in about 15min. There is a nice, fairly new WM near there, so I try to plan a trip to make both stops.

Oh okay.....not too far out of the way then.  Relief.  (lol).

  • We LOVE their chocolate bars (really big bars in blue packages). It totally hits the spot when I need something sweet.

I regularly purchase frozen ground turkey there, its $1.39/lb. I actually bought 12lbs today :)

Their chicken nuggets are really good, I buy the regular shaped ones not the safari animals because they are 100% white meat.

Canned Beans, Salsa, Seasonings (Italian Dressing Mix is CHEAP!), Taco Sauce, sugar/flour, butter, cottage cheese, dishwasher detergent...

I find it to be a great place to stock up on "basics" that I rarely get on a hot sale/coupons.

On a semi-side note, Caleb loves to put the money in the cart and will be entertained for a good 5 minutes trying to get it out. LOL, i love that!

  • As I pulled out my coffee creamer this morning I thought of another thing to add to the list. I bought a BIG thing of their Fat Free French Vanilla Creamer (very inexpensive) and it is yummy! :)
  • starz and backthepack....I too live near the hanes mall area and near peters creek.  I don't look on the NC board often but need to more!

I love the Aldi on Peters Creek.  I make cakes on the side and get a lot of my supplies there...especially powdered sugar.  A couple of weeks ago I got some pork chops that were REALLY good.  I need to get more things there but I am usually in a hurry and need baking items and mostly get that stuff.

I too wasn't a fan of their can green beans.
