re: Baby Gates

I'm still looking at baby gates and have another question. The staircase in our home isn't a half wall, it's just a bannister with spools (does that make sense?) There really isn't much to secure the gate to...how do you girls do it? I'd almost like to think about something that ties or velcro's around the spools...or am I thinking way too much into this and any gate will work?

a bad picture...but you can get the idea.

Re: re: Baby Gates

  • That's even trickier. A lot of gates have optional conversion kits, but from what I researched it seems like a lot of families just attached a 2x4 to the banister and then drill the gate into that.

    GL! That's hard.

  • ugh...yeah I definitely won't be getting DH to drill anything into a bannister Sleep

  • I think we ended up drilling into our banister.
  • What's on the other side?  Is it another banister post?

We just have a tension gate at the bottom of our stairs because we just have banister posts like your photo, but we have one on each side.

You could always rig something up, like a 2x4 attached to the banister with zip ties and the gate screwed into the 2x4s, but I'm pretty sure you can buy banister installation kits.

We did this - though we only put a gate at the top of the stairs

We also have the same looking stairs and just use a tension gate, it works easily.

  • Both sides are banister at the bottom and one side is banister at the top of our stairs.  DH wouldn't drill into the banister so we have these...  https://www.amazon.com/Stairway-Gate-Installation-Kit-KidCo/dp/B000P007FI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1289264911&sr=8-2

Basically they're plastic that secures around the banister.  Then you attach the gate to them or to another piece of wood attached to them.
