Turning a wedding gown into christening gown

I would like to have my wedding gown made into a christening gown for LO (and any future children we may have) and plan to have my wedding date along with any future christening dates sewn into the hem.

I figure, I'm never going to wear it again and the chances of my daughter (if I ever have one) wanting to wear the dress are pretty slim. So, why not turn it into something special that can be passed down in our family? I love the idea of my grandchildren (and great-grandchildren!) wearing it.

Can anyone recommend a seamstress who might be able to do this? I was thinking about asking the tailor who altered my wedding dress, but I have no clue where to start! Thanks!

Re: Turning a wedding gown into christening gown

  • I had a lady at my office make a Christening gown for me out of some old Irish linen I had and leftover lace from when I had my wedding gown altered.  It turned out beautiful!  I went to Hancock and found a pattern I liked and she did the rest.  I would say the person who altered your gown should be able do it.  Good luck!
  • That's a great idea.

  • I don't have any suggestions on seamstresses, but I think it's a great idea. My SIL did the same thing and had a boy's christening outfit made for my nephew when he was baptised.
