Maternity Photos

Did any of you have professional maternity photos taken?

I have been thinking about it for a few months now since this is my first pregnancy and all. My DH thinks it's silly and a waste of money. Though a friend of mine had another friend take pics of her she says she really regrets not getting good ones taken.

My husband's aunt has offered to pay our rent next month as an early baby present, so we will have a little bit of extra $. Not much though,

What do you all think?

Anyone know of an affordable photographer?

Re: Maternity Photos

  • I didn't get any taken professionally, I just did the weekly belly shots to keep up with progress.  Part of me wishes I had gotten them taken, and I am seriously considering them next time around since that will be my last pregnancy.

What's your definition of affordable?  I know of a really affordable one in the Florence area but you are in B'ham.  Stephanie Fisher is our resident board photographer and she is in B'ham and takes fantastic photos.  Here is her website:

  • I had them taken professionally, but the photog is also a friend of mine. So, it turned out to be a baby gift, which was awesome. However, I was going into it thinking I would be paying. It is something that I had never really given much thought to and didn't think it would be something I was really interested in doing. However, my Mother and friend convinced me that I would want to have some nice pics of my pregnancy, especially some with Dh. I am so glad I listened and had them done. I treasure them. I know I will even more as DS gets older. I plan to have them taken again this time around. I live two hours south of B'Ham or I would recommend my friend. She's really good.

Also, I had them taken the day before I went in for my induction, which was 6 days past my due date. I definitely plan to have them done earlier this time. Maybe around 35 weeks. I was soo swollen and huge by that point, I wish I looked a little better in the pics where it shows my face and hands. They were quite puffy by that point.

  • With Avery we went to JCP and had a few done pretty inexpensively.  I think it's something nice to have but certainly something not "necessary" - maybe even a friend with a little artistic vision can help you out for free?  I hope this doesn't come across as snarky or mean but you mentioned your aunt is giving you an early baby gift and paying your rent for you, which is really generous but I hope that if money is an issue that you're taking any extra money you have to start saving for your baby instead of paying for photographs.
  • I hope this does not sound like I?m trying to make decisions for you; but, as you asked or said

?Did any of you have professional maternity photos taken??  We?re planning on them being taken at week 35 for us since several have told us that between weeks 34-37 are best. A good friend who?s a photographer is doing them for us. She has several packages available to choose from in her studio. She?s coming down about that time for a visit so we plan to take advantage of this by taking a package from her. She?s not in the Alabama area; but, instead from outside the Knoxville, Tennessee area. So she would not be available for yours unless you?d be willing to travel that far which I don?t think would be that practical in your case.

?My husband's aunt has offered to pay our rent next month as an early baby present, so we will have a little bit of extra $. Not much though.? This is something I feel is most gracious of her - doing for you?ll.

?What do you all think?? If you?re on a tight or limited budget you really don?t need to be thinking of a professional doing them for you - unless you?re able to get a small package with CD/DVD so you can post them for friends and/or family on the internet, e-mails, etc. for a nominal fee.

I?m in complete agreement with this part of sdkrlm reply - ?? but I hope that if money is an issue that you're taking any extra money you have to start saving for your baby instead of paying for photographs.?

I do believe this is good sound advice which you should follow ?

  • I had professional maternity photos taken and I'm very glad I did.

  • While I appriciate the concern, I assure you all that my son will be well taken care of.

Also if I knew anyone at all in this state then I would just have someone I know take pictures, but I don't so I can't
