Hi. I'm working on an article about holiday traditions (for The Bump). I asked on several boards a few days ago for people to tell me about the traditions they are bringing back from their childhood for their kids...but I got almost all responses about Christmas.
Help! I want to know about the Hanukkah traditions you are (or will be) repeating for your children. Did your family do anything especially special or different for Hanukkah? What traditions are you excited about bringing back for baby?
TIA!
(If you have any questions, or have a response you don't want to post here, you can email Bump Kaitlin at kstanford@theknot.com. She'll forward it to me.)
Re: Hanukkah traditions?
Chanuka...
1. I loved making latkes, well except for when I would slice my knuckles with the grater. My mom says the blood makes the latkes sweeter.
2. My parents used to buy me 8 presents, wrap them and put them all on the dining room table. My mom and I would light the chanuka candles in the kitchen and then I was allowed to choose one present each night. Getting socks was the worst!
Except for the presents, chanuka wasn't a very big deal. I have more memories of Rosh Hashana, Purim and Tu Bishvat.
