Major night fail

Noras crying woke Evie up tonight around 2:30 and we have been fighting to get her back to sleep for about 2 hours.

Those of you with two, how did you keep LO#2 crying from waking up LO#1?

I went in to rock Evie and even bigger fail leaked all over me and her so we were both covered in BM.  AWESOME.

Oh sweet sleep.......

Re: Major night fail

  • This is one of my biggest fears.  We have a fan or humidifier that makes noises and have always closed Luke's door so it is pretty loud with white noise in there.  I hope it gets better though and let us know what you figure out as many of us will be in that same boat within the next couple months.

  • I'm sorry that you didn't get any sleep :-(

She'll get used to the noise soon, just like husbands do ;-)

  • :( I Have no clue. I hear Andrew randomly wake up at night and play his glow worm so I'm hoping it won't bother him. That's probabl ywishful thinking.
  • My biggest fear! I guess that's one of the reasons I'm siding with DH now in waiting to have another, our house is so tiny and the walls so thin, I feel like Rowan would be waking up ALL the time.

Good luck, goodness I hate the boob leakage those first few months :( I felt like I always had a burp rag in my bra.

  • Try to get a nap today - and try not to fret about it - your older LO will get used to it over time!   What happened last night will not happen every night, and it WILL get better.

That said - I have a white-noise machine in both kids rooms and keep both their doors closed.   Their rooms are right next to each other.   I know that DD can hear some of DS2's crying at night even with the white-noise machine, but at least its not as loud.

I remember our first couple weeks at home - I would hear DD1 crying "Mama, mama, mama" when I was up feeding DS2 (I remember sobbing while feeding DS hearing her cry - those darn post-pregnancy hormones nearly got the best of me).

But we didn't go into her room unless she was really crying loud or for long.   After the first couple weeks, we haven't had any problems with the baby waking her up.

We've found that (even before DS2), if we go into DD1's room when she cries, it is PAINFUL to get her back to sleep.  I'm talking like 2-3 hours.  So we really try to let her CIO for 5-10 minutes before we consider going in - and she almost always puts herself back to sleep before the 5-10 minute mark.

  • I don't have any advice, but (((hugs))).  I hope you can get a nap in today.
