To me, it's one of those names that is trying so hard to be classy, like Tiffany, Precious or Diamond, that it just ends up trashy. I wouldn't take not finding it in normal baby name books as a good sign either (I also don't find Moon Unit or Dweezil in name books for a very good reason).
I think Ruby would be a better alternative, still unique without being over the top
alrighty i guess i relate names to people and shes deff not trashy i think its a really cool name you dont hear often and i know she always gets compliments on it
This is actually a fairly popular name in my mom's family tree - it's a man's name, though. I also know of a handful of my grandparent's friends with this name, again all men. Maybe it's a generational Canadian/British thing?
This is actually my grandfathers name....which is used for middle names for most of the male grandkids now. And actually my wedding ring doesn't have a diamond in it, it has a great big Garnet set in it to honor him, as he has since pasted away.

It's one of the FL State University colors so that's what I think of. I don't like it as a name for a person.
But you are right, it's not something you hear every day as a name.

I also know a few Garnets, but they are all men.
I actually think it works better as a boy's name, than for a girl.
