Preschool Question

How many teachers does your DD have? There was a post on the preschool board where people were saying they would never put their child in a preschool class with only one teacher. DD has had one teacher for the past two years, and DS will when he goes there next year, I never even questioned it.

Re: Preschool Question

  • One teacher and one teacher's aide for 15 kids.
  • In the toddler class, TB has 1 teacher, and 3 TA's at any given time (a couple of them work shifts).  In the primary, ML has 1 teacher and 1 TA, with other TA's that come and go, helping out in all the primary classes.

  • 1 teacher, 2 aides for 20 kids
    .
  • There are only 6 kids in DD's class, in this situation would it concern you to have only one teacher?
  • No, a 1:6 ratio is good.

DD has a class of 15 with one certified teacher and one para-professional (aka Teacher's Aide).

  • 1 teacher, 1 aide, 17 kids.  1 teacher with 6 kids wouldn't bother me.  That's a little like an in-home DC over here.

  • Ds has about 32 kids in his class at any given time with three teachers (well, technically one head teacher and two assistant teachers.) It works well for them.
  • DS has 2 teachers for 12 kids.

  • 2 teachers plus one parent helper or assistant teacher (it's a co-op, so parents help in the classroom MWF and there is an assistant T/Th) for 16 kids.
  • Two teachers for 12 kids.  The maximum amount of kids they allow is 14.  We had looked at several other preschools that they had one teacher and the maximum amount of kids they could have was 16.  That just seemed crazy to me!

  • 1:6 is good.   I always wondered how 1 teacher did it with kids needing assistance in the bathroom, organizing lunch, getting them all down for a nap.   But they do it.   There are days when DS & I are 1:1 and I need help, so I give preschool teachers a ton of cred.

FWIW, there are 18 kids in his class. 1 teacher, 1 assistant, and 2 aides that come in & out when needed.

  • One teacher, 10 kids, with floaters that come and help as needed.

M's teacher has sedatives in her voice though...not sure how she does it, but she says "come and sit in a circle" and the kids go and quietly sit in a circle....she's like the pied piper, the kids are mesmorized, so I have no worries about her with the 10 kids.

All are potty trained and go by themselves, so pottying is not an issue.

  • One for six kids.

  • He goes to a co-op. It's one teacher and one parent helper for 12 kids.

ETA: it's a preschool, not daycare, so naps and lunch are not an issue. He's there 2 1/4 hours a day, 3 days a week.

  • 4 teachers, 29 kids. They usually split down into four groups, so each teacher has about 7 kids at a time.

This, except 2.75 hours 2x weekly.  (Next year will be 3x weekly)

He has one teacher, one aide, and 6 kids in his class.

  • One teacher, 2 aides for 12 kids.
  • 2 teachers for prek, plus whatever parents want to help out.  16 students.
  • DS1's pre-k (4 y/o) class has one teacher and one para for 16 kids. DS2's preschool 2/3 class has two teachers for 12 kiddos. One teacher for 6 kids your DD's age would be totally fine with me.

  • It all has to do with ratios.  In both of my girls classes, the ratio is 1 teacher to 10 kids.  In the mornings and afternoons when all the kids are not there, there is often 1 teacher only but mid-day when the class is full, there are always 2 teachers.  At the younger preschool age, I like having 2 teachers in the room since 1 teacher tends to get pulled into the potty to help the potty training/newly trained kids a ton of if a child gets hurt of something like that, it just makes it easier to have 2 staff in the room.  I know in my younger DD's room, they often combine the preschool rooms in the morning when #'s are low for this very reason, so 1 teacher is never alone in the room.  It is different in my older DD's PreK room but the kids are 4 and 5 and the bathroom is across the hall and the kids go themself and they just have more indepenance/can do more on their own and that is a big part of the classroom - doing things on your own, asking your peers for help stuff.  I know my DD, who is the 1st dropped off by about 10 mins and then my DD and one boy are there with 1 teacher for about 45-60 mins until the aide comes and I have no issues with that at all.  For the most part, they have 2 teachers in the room other than at nap/quiet time when it is just 1 teacher.

  • She's in a 4K program right now. There's one teacher and I believe one aid. Some parents volunteer too. There are 19 kids total.
