I think it's determined by counties. For Orange County, I had to wait until 8 weeks before it was ready and I had to go down to the county recorder office. It wasn't automatic.
I just got a call from Enfamil to ask what formula to send!! I'm actually glad I waited since DS is to be on Gentlease. Had they asked two months ago I would have gotten regular. Now the task is getting him to actually drink the formula.
Where I live, you can go to the County Clerk Recorder's office anytime after 4 weeks to request copies of the birth certificates. They don't automatically mail them out to you. We picked up copies of our son's around 8 weeks or so.

DH and I were just talking about this today. Ours don't get sent to us, we have to go to our local health department and get them there. We still haven't gotten around to getting DS1's BC, haven't needed it yet. I was thinking about going and getting everyone's today though so I could do the freebies. I actually kind of liked not having DS1's b/c it was 1 less important paper that I had to keep track of.
