Need A Dr

Since I just moved here I have no idea where to start on Dr's and hospitals..

And i should probably be making my first appt soon

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Im in Trussville but dont mind commuting as far as Alabaster, as long as I know i have a good Dr and hospital

Re: Need A Dr

  • A lot of girls here go to the Birmingham OB/GYN practice at St. Vincent's (birminghamobgyn.com) and see various doctors there.  I see Dr. Damrich and I love him.  I've also seen a couple of the female doctors there and have had great experiences with all.  My birthing experience at St. Vincent's was also great, I really can't say enough good things about the hospital.  It's probably about a 20-25 min drive from Trussville area.

I don't think you'll need to go to Alabaster. :)  I know some other girls on this board also go to Brookwood Hospital, I'm sure they will chime with their recs, and I also thing there's a couple other practices at St. Vincents where ladies go.

I don't know if anyone goes to UAB but I have friends who have delivered there and report good experiences.

  • I have just started seeing Dr. Sarah Davis at B'ham OB/GYN and am really pleased...I was seeing Dr. Death, I mean Dr. Tameka Roberts but NEVER AGAIN!

I delivered at Brookwood and the nurses were great!

I'm at Brookwood at the Brookwood OB/GYN practice. I love our Dr and he'll deliver Baby #2; however, I have to share that the facilities at St Vincents really blow Brookwood's out of the water. Brookwood will have a fantastic facility...just not until 2012Crying   Both of those hospitals are very good- I don't know much about UAB, but know that their facilities are updated.

Mapquest says it is 15.7 miles...not bad!!!

  • I delivered at Brookwood and was happy. St. Vincent's does have a more updated facility and UAB new Women's and Children's center is top notch. With you living in Trussville, all 3 hospitals/ob/gyn are just a hop, skip and a jump interstate ride.

  • I deliverd at St. Vincents and used Dr. Sarah Davis at Birmingham OB/GYN. I absolutely love all the Drs and nurses there.  I felt like I was really well taken care of and that everyone there had mine and Miller's best interest in mind.

You might wanna check into St. Vincents East (I think that's the name) I think they have a hospital in Trussville??  I'm not sure if they deliver babies there or not, but it's worth looking into.

I just looked up St. Vincent east...and they do! That is literally right across the street from me..(for now)..But by the time July comes around i will hopefully have moved to a bigger place! But it still may be the closest.

  • I also live in Trussville and go to St.Vincents Birmingham.  Personally, after living here my whole life, I would still choose Birmingham over East.

I had a WONDERFUL experience at St. Vincents when I delivered DD, and when recently admitted for hyperemesis.  They also have a great NICU, which is important because you never know what could happen during/after delivery.

As far as doctors, I use Dr. Dan Hudson with Henderson & Walton.  Dr. Bill Hudson is in the same group and I really love both of them.

ETA:  St. Vincents East was just taken over by the St. Vincents hospital system about 1-2 years ago.  They were previously Medical Center East, so everything about the hospital/facilities are not comparable.

    Allie ~ 01/26/09 ~ 7 lbs, 9 oz ~ 20.75 in. & Amelia ~ 03/16/11 ~ 8 lbs, 1 oz ~ 21 in.

I agree with this. St. Vincent's Birmingham is worth the trip, plus I don't have any specific doctors or practices to recommend, although I'm sure there are plently qualified docs who deliver there.  I believe they have updated their maternity ward, however they don't have the high level NICU like Birmingham does.

  • I go to the new Woman's and Infants Center at UAB. They have several different OBs there. I have to be seen in the high risk clinic so I hope you don't have to go to that one. There are many regular OBs there that I'm sure are great.
  • I'm seeing Dr. Rebecca DeRosier at OBGYN Associates of Alabama at St. Vincents. I love her!  She's very sweet, takes her time, and always makes me feel comfortable. I liked the other OB in the group I have met so far (Dr. Benton), and we'll meet the other 3  in the practice shortly so we will have seen them before delivery (just in case Dr. DeRosier isn't on call)-but have heard good things.  :)

Awww, thanks!  I can't wait to do the room for this baby!  Furniture and bedding are ordered...but we're not going to move Allie to the guest room until after the holiday visitors have gone.
