xp: help w/toddler spitting out food...

omg i am about to go nuts with this! ds has suddenly started spitting his food out.  not throwing it up, but taking a bite, and then starting to chew it and then spitting it out.

sometimes he lets it just fall out of his mouth, and other times he actually spits it out.

it is driving me CRAZY!  i don't know what to do. i'm sure that this is normal and that overall he is eating a decent amount.  but i'm just so spoiled!  he used to eat anything and everything. and now all of a sudden he's picky or something!

i feel bad that he is basically refusing food that he used to love, but i don't know if i should just keep trying w/different food until he eats or if this will just worsen the problem.  not to mention all the wasted food that i'll go through in the process!

so what do you do?? it's not every meal, but it's usually at least 2 out of 3 meals a day.  breakfast and dinner are by far the fussiest meals of the day, with dinner being the worst.

Re: xp: help w/toddler spitting out food...

  • could it be teething pain - like when he bites in a certain place it bothers him?

DS spits things out when they are too hot or cold, or more often when he puts too much in his mouth at once. It totally grosses me out and irritates DH because of the waste. But in our case it is not that frequent, so we verbally correct him and try to tell him to take smaller bites and chew before he takes another bite.

  • i don't know... i guess it could be teething related.  but when it started it was at the end of the meal like he was too full and would then spit it out as if to say, ok i'm done!  but now it starts after like 2 bites of food.  it's so frustrating!  new food, old food he loved, it doesn't seem to matter if it's cold food or warm food, or room temp.
