I moved and need to make an OB/GYN appointment. I hated the one I had when I went around here for college. Any rave reviews for your OB? I'm looking for one who will be VBAC/natural birth friendly in the future.
Also open to midwives, if they do regular care along with prenatal. We aren't TTC yet. I guess I'm still kind of learning about the midwife thing!
We're kind of on the northern end of Columbus but I drove 45 minutes for an OB I loved in our old town. Thanks!
Re: Central Ohio ladies: OB/GYN or midwife recs?
I believe that most of the Columbus Nesties/Bumpies switched to a private board. BUT if you go to the Nest/Bump local board link, there's probably a link to the private board in one of the few posts, and you can apply to post there.
I know that Kingsdale Gynecology (or whatever the official name is) got in craploads of interwebz trouble for having a "No doulas, no birth plans, you do what we say because we know best" policy, so I'd stay far far away from them. I'd also try to avoid anyone whose main delivery site is at OSU, unless you want a room full of med students (and having taught some of those med students, I'd suggest that you don't).
Clintonville is a fairly crunchy area where you might be able to find a midwives practice that could work for you, but I'm not sure how exactly you'd go about searching for someone in that specific area.
Good luck!

i'm totally a lurker here, but had to chime in. you aren't going to find many midwifes around c-bus. at least i didn't. From the bit that I've researched, you want to stay away from Riverside- nice hospital, but they really push interventions.
i would highly highly recommend the new Dublin Methodist Hospital. It is so nice, and from the pamphlet I received they are very natural birth friendly. I love my new OB- I've only been to her once, but two other people I know go to her and love her too. The practice is attached to the hospital- it's called Specialists in OBGYN. My OB is Dr Tracy Cook. I talked to her a bit about inductions, birth plans, and what not and she seemed very supportive. I do not, however, know her stance on VBAC. It'd definitely be worth checking into! Anyway, hope that helps!
I never use the local boards, so I honestly forgot about those, thanks for the reminder!
I will definitely check out mothering.com.
Thanks for the names/places to look at or avoid. I will definitely keep them in mind
(Especially the OSU thing...hadn't thought of the room full of students thing! I would not be a fan...)
Thank you very very much!
I'm a little late chiming in, but I had a great experience with Professionals for Women's Health. It's a big practice though, so if you want something small it wouldn't be for you. I loved all the midwives I met with and the OB's were good as well. I don't have any experience with med-free birthing or VBAC so I'm not sure how they stand on those things, but they were very flexible with my plans (especially not inducing on/before my due date - unfortunately DS didn't ever want to come out so in the end I was induced, but it was at 41w4d.)
Oh, for the record, I gave birth at Riverside and did not feel pressured at all to do anything I didn't want to during labor or delivery!
