I prefer it with the J. To me, when I glance at Gillian it looks too much like Giligan and I think people would want to pronounce it more as a G than a J.

I like it with a J because when I see it spelled with a G I always think of gills like fish have, so I have a hard time saying it right.

Me too. I don't know why, but I like the look of the G over the J in both of these names.

Definitely Jillian. Like a pp said, Gillian looks like gill-like fish gills.
