OK I have been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes and am awaiting an appt with a specialist to start a Diet etc. I was told Thursday to start managing my diet on my own. Has anyone else been diagnosed that can give me tips for a diet?

Re: anyone with GD
You should eat 6 meals a day, your regular 3 and snacks in between and try to space them out as evenly as possible. Always eat a protein with every meal. Your nutritionist will tell you the amount of carbs you're allowed to have at each meal, but mine described it as "carb choices" and one carb choice was worth about 15 grams of carbs.
So I got 2-3 carb choices for breakfast, 1-2 for a snack, 3-4 for lunch, 1-2 for snack, 4 for dinner, 1-2 for a snack. (This could be wrong, it was three years ago)
So for breakfast I'd have
Half an english muffin (1 carb choice) with 2 tbsp peanut butter (1 carb choice, also a protein) and then 1 cup of milk (1 carb choice, also a protein)
Snack was a small apple with cheese slices. Or small handful of pretzels with a cheese stick. Half a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
A lunch I liked to have was a Grilled Chicken Bacon Ranch salad from Mcdonalds, obviously doesn't have to be from Mcdonalds can make your own, but a good example because you had the protien from the chicken and the bacon, veggies and a little cheese. It was about 3-4 carb choices, even with the ranch dressing and it's not as high in fat as it sounds. So any kind of balanced lunch.
And then I would just make a regular dinner but cut my portions way down. If I ate out somewhere I'd ask for a to go box right away and immediately divide my food in half.
You really have to watch out for condiments and sauces they contain a lot of carbs/sugars that you wouldn't expect them to.
You'll learn all this with your nutritionist, but just some samples from my experience to get you started until you see them.
