I kee reading everyone posts about having the blood work done but I didn't have blood work with mine. After drinking it and waiting I had a finger poke and they had an instant read. Anyone else?
Some offices choose to do it with a fingerstick for instant results, and some like to send it to their lab for analysis. Both ways are effective. I think the fingerstick is a lot more convenient...but alas, my OB does the venous puncture, so I'll have to wait on the results.

I haven't had mine yet this pregnancy and with DS (5 years ago) they drew vials of blood, but it wasn't that big of a deal. Actually, I don't remember having to drink the gross orange drink I keep hearing people complain about. I may have only done the fasting blood draw and based off of those results, I didn't have to have the 1hr/3hr test....not sure.
I do have to do the drink/3hr test this time, but I hope they do the finger prick test....that would be nice.
I have to fast and get vials drawn then drink the fun juice and have more vials taken 3 hours later. My DR also ticked off some other tests on the blood req, so I assume that is why they need to do the vials for analysis rather then a simple finger prick.
I just had mine done Friday morning. Fasted after midnight and went in and drank this stuff that looked like bottled watered and tasted like Sprite or Sierra Mist syrup without the carbonated water. Sat in the lab office for an hour and did the blood test with a tube of blood. Hope this helps.
Haven't had mine yet with this pregnancy about 6 more weeks or so and I will, but with my first they drew blood. And because of my family history of diabetes I had to go back at about 34 weeks and have a 2nd glucose test done. You're definitely lucky if you get the finger prick and thats it. I would much prefer it.
Mine was super easy- I had to get mine earlier then planned because I was at the hospital for other tests for my bp. So they just gave it to me then in case I needed steroid shots for early delivery down the line, so they would know how my body handled the sugar (I guess the steroid shots are high in sugar or something).
She poured like 4 ounces of the orange drink (tasted like flat orange soda, a little sweeter really not bad at all) into a cup of ice. Had 5 minutes to drink it which was easy, and then she came back in an hour and drew 1 vile of blood from my arm. I did not have to fast before the drink, but between the drink and my blood being drawn for that hour I could not eat or drink anything except water. They gave me my results from the lab in about an hour, I passed with 104 yay!
