What can I do?

Yesterday afternoon I don't know what happened, but my guess is the baby moved into an odd position and is sitting on a nerve or something.  As a result I am having a terrible time walking-I am literally limping around it is so painful to walk.  I can't lift my legs without terrible pain to get in the car or go up the stairs.  DH and I don't know what to do-I am not in labor, but I am having so much trouble keeping up with the kids b/c I am struggling so much to move. If it were a weekday I would call the OB, but since I am not in labor I feel like I don't know what to do.  Did anyone go through this?  DH wants to bring me in, but I don't know what they can really do to help me.

Re: What can I do?

  • They can't do much for you yet. Call them and see what they say, though. You can go to the chiro if you're comfortable with it and they may be able to help.
  • I would at least call the on call dr and tell them. Maybe they can give you a stretch or give you a tip to help ease the discomfort.

  • Sounds like baby is sitting on your sciatic nerve which is extremely painful.  I had it with Britt and all I could do was just rest & stay off my fee until she changed positions.  Honestly I would give your OB a call just to see what they suggest.

  • I'd call the doctor, but to be honest it sounds like the baby is on your sciatic nerve and they probably can't do much about it other than to tell you to stay off of your feet and rest. I'm not generally a huge fan of chiropractors, but I'd probably be tempted to give it a try in this situation. Good luck.
  • I had that happen with my first pregnancy.  I even went to the OB, but there is nothing they can do for you.  If you regularly go to a chiropractor  or know a physical therapist they may be able to relieve the pain or give you some exercises to do.  I couldn't even walk, my knees would buckle the pain was so intense.  I was off of work for a week and then the baby weight shifted and I was able to stand and get around again.
  • Ditto the sciatic nerve pain. There's nothing they can do. I spent a significant portion of both third trimesters feeling like that. It really sucks.

  • This sucks.  The answering service for my OB isn't even answering the phone right now.  I need something to happen now, b/c there is no way I can manage 2 kids like this for 2 weeks.  :(
  • I had this with Ella and Drew. It was pure hell. The only thing that made me feel better was getting on all fours and letting my belly hang down. It took off the pressure off.

Good Luck :( I hope she comes soon for you!

  • Thanks ladies....I ended up calling the hospital directly to get some help. They connected me to labor delivery and I spoke with a resident who contacted the doc on call for my office. Apparently, it is public symphysis diastasis, it is the ligaments in the front that stretch and spread as my public bone separates and allows the baby's head to descend. The pain is all down front right underneath my belly. Unfortunately outside of tylenol, there is nothing they can do and there is no telling how long it can take to go away. It doesn't indicate labor is coming either. I never had this with the boys...no fun :(
  • I had this with my second and third pregnancies. OMG, it's painful, isn't it?! I'm sorry you're experiencing it. It's especially bothersome with two little ones, I know. I remember having the hardest time picking up after them. GL:(
