LO's mouth always smells like sour milk...

Normal?

Doesn't bother me as long as it's healthy. Is it typical for an exclusively breastfed baby's mouth to always smell a bit sour?

DD sometimes smells like that too... mostly after she spits up.

  • I try to clean my LO's mouth as often as I can.  It helps to get rid of the smell.
  • I noticed that a lot when she was younger (up to 2 months), but not so much anymore.

  • Zoey's mouth smells like this pretty often. I brought it up at her last appt and the doctor said it's just where there is milk residue on her tongue.
  • If her mouth smells and she spits up she may have a mild case of reflux. Helping her stay upright or lying with an incline, and frequent burping may help. My daughter had the same problem, and extended tummy time has also helped her.
  • Only after she spits up, which has been a lot lately.
