EPer wanting to BF again

I started to EP due to low supply when DD was 3 weeks.  Since then I have been on fenugreek and domperidone and I'm producing about 20 of her 24 oz that she takes each day (when DD was 3 weeks she only got about 6 oz of BM a day).  I have been exclusively pumping and giving her the bottle.

I'd like to BF again - do you think I can just pick back up?  I have nursed her a few times and she still latches just fine.

 Any tips for me?  Thanks!

FWIW - DD is 10 weeks old

  • sure its possible, just keep putting her to the breast my daughter hasnt nurse since she was 6 weeeks old and she is slowly getting the hang of latching (as pour as it is) and getting milk from the breast vs the bottle.

thanks berrybuzz.  do you nurse her then pump afterwards?  then supplement with bottle?

  • i normally nurse her, then i already have a bottle ready (im always a couple bottles ahead of her now) normally if she gets a good feed off me she will only take about an ounce from a bottle.i nurse her until she gets ugly with me and doesnt want to anymore.

sometimes she will suck until i get a letdown and REFUSE to nurse then im spraying everywhere.

i normally pump after she takes her bottle.

  • It's definitely possible. Contrary to what BerryBuzz suggested, my lactation consultant recommended starting every feed with a bottle, then switching to the breast. Her logic was that babies bond with whatever they finish their feed on/whatever they fall asleep to. She said it's best to give LO enough via bottle to get a little milk in the belly/take away the hungry empty belly feeling, then let him/her nurse until full. I've been doing this with DD and it seems to work well. The key is to adjust the amount given via bottle so that she isn't too full to nurse. And then I pump after every feeding. Le sigh... :P
