Article On the Seasonal/H1N1 Vaccine

We have not done the flu vaccine in about 6 years. The last time we did it, all 4 of us got REALLY sick.

We also have never done the H1N1 vaccine, and the doctor who treated us when we contracted Influenza A told us that he got the vaccine, as required by his job, but his children didn't get it...

That all said...

Thoughts on this article?

(and it would be GREAT if we can have a conversation without name calling or the terms 'stupid', 'moronic', or 'idiot' being used, let's be adults)

i have never gotten the flu vax before, and i'm not real wild about getting it now that i'm pregnant. it's so hard to find valuable information out there that ISN'T written by the CDC or the government pushing the flu vax on everyone. i know that there is another side of the story, but this article seems to be the closest i can find to it. i click on links that talk about the negatives of the flu vax and they all seem to be "error, page not found". and the sites i do find don't seem to have reputable sources. its very frustrating to just be told "you must do this, do you WANT to put your baby at risk??" when i can't be sure that it really is the best thing.

Just scratch the surface a little bit:

The "World Chiropractic Alliance" is a splinter group that has generated some controversy over the years (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Chiropractic_Alliance)

On their website, they endorse the National Vaccine Information Center (https://www.nvic.org), which is in my estimation a thinly-veiled anti vaccine advocacy group.

    See: https://www.worldchiropracticalliance.org/about/wca.htm#issues

So, first of all, this article is not scholarly, does not present any peer-reviewed data or information, and neither do any of the stories it links to. Second, they clearly have an anti-vaccine agenda. Third, why would I go to a chiropractor for information about vaccinations?

    This.  Exactly.

OP, I'm not flaming you, but the article you link to cites a freaking message board as a source for the article. Not the most reliable of sources.

Agreed.  I just did a quick pubmed search and only found articles stating that adverse effects were minimal (flu-like symptoms & the like), granted, I didn't look at a bunch of pages of abstracts, but if there were lots of terrible adverse events out there, I would have expected to see at least one study showing that.  I only saw one paper with a single patient with an adverse effect probably due to the vaccine ("probably", because he had the same effect after both doses of the vax). Interestingly, there seem to be a lot of papers showing that different groups (rural US medical providers, pregnant women in western Australia, etc) are hesitant to be vaccinated due to fear.

That's why the question. I have been working on trying to find validity to the claims that different nations have banned the flu vaccine (at least this batch) but keep coming up with more of the same ( WA Today, Examiner, and Natural News are here)

I like to get the actual press releases or recalls and am having a stinkin' hard time finding them... OTOH, it would surprise me that no one has put up a stink about this by now if it is not true, and found the CDC reports the same

"The flu vaccine" (as a broad, general term) has NOT been banned. The use of Fluvax (manufactured by CSL Biotherapies) in Australia has been suspended for kids under the age of 5 due to an increase in febrile seizures. It's still acceptable for kids over age 5.

Also, Afluria (the same drug/same pharma company, but sold to the US) has been suspended for patients ages 6 mos - 8 years.

Please note (from the link below):

Other age-appropriate, licensed seasonal influenza vaccine formulations have not been associated with an increased risk of fever or febrile seizures, are safe, and should be used for prevention of influenza in children aged six months through eight years.
