Is this normal?

So I'm throwing a birthday party for my niece on Saturday. My sister is super flakey, so I guess most of her friends are too, because no one Bothered to RSVP.

is that normal for kids parties though? I don't have much experience throwing then, do people generally just show up and never RSVP, or are her friends just rude?

I wanted to start cooking tomorrow, but I have no idea how many people too cook for...

Re: Is this normal?

  • I don't get very many calls for RSVP at Ian's school. People usually come up to me and let me know they are coming. I know that my family (not me) never rsvp for anything. They don't realize how annoying that is. I would cook for about half of the people you invited.
  • I don't know if it's normal. I've RSVP'd for every kids bday party I've ever been invited to. Very annoying though. I hate non-RSVPers!

  • I wish I had advice but I'll just say that I hate people who can't RSVP. Can you ask your sister for a headcount - maybe some people have told her that they can't make it?
  • That is so frustrating. I am actually surprised my in laws know when to RSVP although they have no idea that you are suppose to respond if you aren't coming as well. I don't think a lot of people get that part.

  • I got 1 call today, but my sister hasn't heard from anyone else either. I'm just gonna make enough food for 3/4 of the people we invited w/ heavy appetizers, and I think well be fine. Between her husband and my husband, if there is extra food it will get eaten.

I guess some people don't do the RSVP thing. Just another thing I need to make sure I teach my kids the importance of, I guess. Haha.

  • Honestly, I wouldn't think to RSVP unless the invitation says it's being held at a venue that requires a headcount.  But I guess I still think the old school way where kids don't have birthdays until they're old enough to remember them and only the kids are invited/show up therefor a few frozen pizzas and a bottle of Sprite do the trick.

I think you've go the right idea to prepare for 3/4 of the guests.  But have a back-up plan in case more show up- maybe something you can keep in the freezer and eat at another time if you don't need it.
