Anyone have any knowledge or experience with this practice?  My doctor recommended it and I am looking for opinions.

No, but we go to Scottsdale Children's Group on Scottsdale and Shea and I have been really happy with them. We see Dr. Burke but I also liked Dr Gonzales a lot. He was the on call Dr when LO was born so we saw him in the hospital.

Funny you mention Scotts Children's Group, that is my other finalist.  I have a few friends that go there, I have heard great things about Burke, Namjoshi & Garrett.  What is holding me back is that I think I prefer a female since I a having a girl and one of my friends who sees doctor Burke really likes her, but said she works somewhat relaxed hours.  I've heard great things about Garrett, but I think she is mainly at the Osborne location and I prefer Shea. Everyone seems to love Namjoshi, but I think I prefer a female for when she gets a little older.  North Scotts has more females in the practice.

FWIW, I have not had an issue getting in with Dr Burke, even for the one same day appt we have had so far. I like 10AM appts though, so maybe she leaves earlier?

I go to North Scottsdale Pediatrics. They are excellent. We see Dr. Jennifer Caplan and we love her. She followed my son in the NICU and was just wonderful through that. Anyways, nothing but good things to say about the practice.

 Jennifer Caplan is who I think we are going with.  I liked both practices, but think I am going to go with them b/c there are more women and I am having a girl, likely silly, but...  Do you ever have any problems getting in with her? Does she return calls promptly? Have you had any late night emergencies, were you happy with the response?

She rocks...seriously, I can't say enough good things about her. She has a great demeanor - relaxed and very uplifting - and she always takes a lot of time to listen to your questions and concerns. My son has lots of doctors due to some medical issues and I've learned that it's very hard to find pediatric doctors that don't talk down to you. I also feel like she doesn't give me parenting advice unless I ask, which I actually like a lot because many pediatricians have their strong opinions on self-soothing, eating, etc. and can be very pushy with them.

To your specific questions - no issues getting in, the nurse usually returns calls first but honestly has each time been able to help me and responds quickly (even when my DS was 5 months old and rolled onto the hardwood floor and I was in a MAJOR panic) and I haven't had any late night emergencies so I can't answer that one. 

Most of my Mommy friends here in Scottsdale go there too and we all seem to see different doctors. But everyone is happy so that's a good sign about the practice.

Are you delivering at Shea? It's a great hospital - hope everything goes really smoothly for you.

Thanks so much for the info.  She comes highly recommended from an OBGYN friend of mine as well.  Yes, delivering at Shea, I've heard great things about it.

Just to give you a heads up, I delivered at Shea and took the tour like 2 weeks ahead of time (baby was early). They told me there was a nursery I could send him to for 3-4 hours if needed. I didn't think I would want to, but after a 21 hour labor where the epidural didn't work and him not sleeping- I asked for it. Well, they closed it last year- like 5 months before I gave birth and they are still telling people it is open on the tour. It made it really hard on me. Had I known, I think I would have been a little more mentally prepared.

They told me on the tour they don't have one anymore, they said the nurses can take the baby for a few hours if needed, but they really prefer the baby staying in the room with you.

Oh- that is good they updated the tour. I totally thought it would be a non-issue and I was fine with the baby staying with me- until the day. I asked two nurses about the nursery (the first was really rude and didn't explain they had one but it closed) and neither one offered to take him for a bit. Nor did the nurse when I was crying when they told me we needed to stay another night and I hadn't slept in more than 48 hours since he would not sleep unless I was standing up with him. So, I guess I needed to ask explicitly.

We go to North Scottsdale Pediatrics and love it! I think you will be happy with it if you decide to use them. My son see's Dr, Jennifer Gerlach and she is great.
