2nd Trimester

cramping/contractions :(

On Monday I was having some mild contraction like cramps. They didn't hurt, just felt like tightening, like BH. I tried to call the Dr, but they left me on hold for so long that I had to hang up b/c my kids were coming back from lunch (I'm a teacher). Yesterday I was fine but today it came back. I called the Dr. this morning and they said it was too early for BH contractions. I went and gave a urine sample b/c they thought it might be a UTI. The nurse called and it's not a UTI so they wanted to see me. I went in this afternoon after the cramps started getting more uncomfortable. My cervix is long and closed and hard and the Dr, couldn't see any reason for the cramps. She said my urine did not show dehydration but to just go home, drink tons of water and rest. She told me if I am not feeling better to stay home tomorrow and rest and if it didn't stop or gets worse I should go back in, although she said she didn't know what they would do b/c they have no idea what is causing this. I took a nap and am still having some pain/discomfort. I am hoping to feel better and go to work tomorrow b/c we have a lot to get done and it's our Halloween party b/c there is no school for students on Friday.

Has this happened to anyone else? If they are BH contractions, I am not concerned, but like I said, they are more uncomfortable than that now.

Re: cramping/contractions :(

  • This may sound really stupid, but could it be gas pains?  My SIL actually went to the ER when she was pregnant because she thought she was having contractions...turns out it was just gas pains.  I've also had some similar pains and it really does feel like a cramping or painful BH, but nope, just some lovely pregnancy gas issues!

  • The PP made a really good point.  Gas, or pain from not pooping normally.  Sometimes I feel awful from a combination of these things.  I've been concerned at times, and then I eventually get some relief and realize what the problem was.  Also, it's weird that they said 18 weeks was too early for BH contractions...cause it's not.  I had really mild ones as early as 15 weeks, but they didn't get stronger till about 23 weeks.

  • I was going to suggest the constipation/gas/etc. too.  I also agree that it's definitely not too early for BHs, especially if this is not your first pregnancy.  I've been having them when I'm more active for quite awhile now.  My BH don't hurt, but they aren't comfortable either.

  • i agree with the others.  it is NOT to early for BH!!!  if you were to do some research on the net, you will find tons of stories of other women who have had earlier ones.

and let me tell you, constipation/gas does HORRIBLE things to your body when pregnant!!!  hope your feeling better!
