NBR: Would this bother you?

So my BIL and SIL moved here a few years ago. They knew no one and we introduced them to our friends, help them find jobs and a place to live. Well, last night I was going to a friends house to return some stuff and to my surprise SIL's car was outside. I had texted her before and asked if she wanted to do dinner, and she said she was feeling sick and it was not a good night. So I stopped in to give my friend her stuff and SIL & BIL were over having dinner.

I was upset and confused. I know that she is going to hang out when I am not around... but I dont know why she lied about it.

Would it bother you? It is not the first time she has done something like this.

It would bother me. There is no reason to lie about it. She should have told you she had plans already or simply didn't want to go. Did she say anything to you when you came in?

It would bother me too, but lying generally does. I would be straight forward with her and tell her that it's fine that she hangs out with people when you're not around but that she needs to be honest with you.

It would mostly irritate me.  It really shows her immaturity that she doesn't feel comfortable saying "sorry, can't hang out because I'm hanging out with So-and-so."  You know?  I'd probably say something to her, like, "you know you can just tell me when you're busy with other plans.  I'm not a jealous preteen."

It would have bothered me too.  There's no point in lying.  All she needed to do was say she already had plans!  I'd definitely say something about it....not attacking her in anyway, but just mention that you don't appreciate being lied to.

Yes. I would be very hurt and angry. She had no reason to lie to you. What was her reasoning for the lie?

The lying would bother me, yes.  I would let your DH handle it though since it sounds like his side of the family.

She got up and gave me a hug, as if we had not spoken in a few days. It was weird. I just did what I needed to do and left. I am going to call her tonight and ask her about it.

yeah thatwould bother me.  I don;t care who you are friends with, but why lie about it.
