Flu shot?

Ok, so I've never had a problem around flu season before, but now I feel like I should be protected against it - especially because a lot of people in my classes are getting sick, and the kids at school that I observe at. But I read in "What to Expect" that you shouldn't get a shot that uses the active virus (like the flu shot). I do plan on asking my doctor about this, but has anyone else had this concern? What did you do?

Re: Flu shot?

  • With DS I was given a flu shot by my OB.  I'll probably get another one this year too

And now there's studies saying that the flu shot in 2nd and 3rd tri can help protect the baby after birth

  • DEFINITELY get a flu shot.  As a public health professional, it's good for you and your baby (and the population, frankly).

Pregnant women should NOT get the LIVE vaccine though (which is the nasal version).  Just go to get a shot and be sure to tell them you are PG.  Then you'll be sure to get the dead virus, the shot in the arm.

  • Agree with PP, you should definitely get a flu shot.  Check with your OB, some states require an RX for the shot if your are pregnant.  I know TX does, but not sure about LA.

  • I agree, definitely get the flu shot. As PP said, just tell them you are PG and they'll give you the right version.
