2nd Trimester

What do you take for a cold?

I remember with DD my OB gave me a list of meds that were ok to take for different issues but I can't find it anymore. I think I took pseudophed (sp?) when I was BFing and that made me feel like I was in a daze, so if that is ok during pregnancy I want to avoid it. I had a cold once with DD and didn't take anything for it but can tell I am getting one now and we are going out of state next week and want to be prepared.

  • I second this question. I feel like I'm starting to get sick, but don't know what to take. I'm taking the blame for getting sick though... I'm a preschool teacher and I'm not surprised at all. No
  • I've just done the plain sudafed.

  • Thanks ladies!  I forgot that I did take Robitussin when I got really sick while nursing DD.  I will have to try that because I can't handle the way pseudophed makes me feel.  I am hoping if I take something early that this won't last long..I got DD sick when she was 4 months and she had to be on breathing treatments and it was HORRIBLE, that is bad enough to deal with but I can't imagine having that issue on vacation.  Thanks for the replies!

  • If you are starting to feel like you are getting sick you can also use a neti pot.  They are hard to get used to at first, but I usually instantly feel better.

When I was in labor with DD the nurse actually told DH about those.  He was coughing/hacking a lot because he has allergy issues and all the nurses kept asking me if he was sick (I guess they didn't want him near DD if he was) but anyway he started using one and swears by it.  He won't let me in the bathroom when he does it though because the thought of it freaks me out, I don't know if I could use one of those!
