Working Mamas - Daycare ?

I am currently a SAHM and I am looking into watching one maybe two children in my home through the week.  The entire time I was pregnant with Elli I set a goal that I would stay home with her for the first year.  Well I survived that and I still am not ready to go back to work full time.  So I thought this might be a way to supplement our income a bit plus give Elli a chance to interact more with other children.

So my question is what do you ladies pay for one child in daycare or an in-home day care provider?

I want to charge less because I do not necessarily need to make significant money from doing this however I do not want to go to low either.  Make sense?

 TIA

Re: Working Mamas - Daycare ?

  • Paige goes to a licensed center at a church (different rules than a stand-alone licensed daycare).

We pay $125/week and it does not include meals, but does include two small snacks. It'll drop to $115/week once she's potty-trained. We also pay a $35 charge every six months for a "supply fee" that helps offset cost for things like crafts and snacks.

Reasons why I love her daycare:

I like her socializing with other kids, including some kids who are a little older and can help with her development.

I love that they have a large gym where she can run and scoot and get crazy with unlimited space.

I love that they have all the patience in the world, and there are always two adults in the room (I feel there's more accountability!).

I love that they are constantly doing crafts. I'm not nearly creative or patient enough to do crafts on a regular basis.

I love that they have a large outdoor playground.

That said, some of those things are thing that would be difficult to supply at an in-home daycare, you know? I was all-for an in-home daycare (more attention, less disruption, etc), but now that she's at a daycare center, I absolutely love it. Just a few things to keep in mind. :-)

  • We pay $168 in a church ministry full time M-F.  2 snacks and 2 meals per day.  We provide diapers and nothing else.

  • We pay around $175/week for full-time daycare (7am - 5:30pm).  Daycare is closed normal school holidays, but we pay the same monthly rate regardless of how many days they're open.

In the infant room, we provide bottles, diapers and food.  They have snacks + milk, but we chose to bring our own milk.  In the toddler room, I think they provide food and milk, but I'm not 100% sure.  She's just starting to transition over and I can't find the info sheet.

  • We pay $188 a week in downtown Indy.  This includes 2 meals and 2 snacks (although she makes it for breakfast about 1x a month).  We have to provide diapers and wipes and that's it.

They do tons of crafts and little extras like today they have their own pumpkin patch on the playground where every kid gets to go "pick" a pumpkin during their outside time.

They also have some sort of carnival or festival once a month where parents are invited during an afternoon.  The parents are asked but not required to pitch in for extra snacks etc for those events.  This month our classroom is in charge of juice boxes for the 3 toddler rooms at the center.

  • We pay 125 a week for an inhome daycare.   We dont pay if she closes for any reason or if she takes a vacation.  She provides food and wipes and I provide formula and diapers.  I like it because she has been very dependable and flexible with our schedule (DH was working retail with a varied schedule but we are both now working M-F with normal hours of 7-4 and 8-5).  I also like it because it is small and I feel like he does get more attention then at a daycare setting and also naps better than he would at a center (sleep is important to me!).  With that said I think when he hits 2-3 years old I would like for him to be in a larger setting ie more boys/girls his age.  At the inhome daycare there arent very many kids his age - the closest would be 1 year old twin boys.
  • Thank you ladies for your help.

  • The ones I've seen on my work server which market to teachers are $30-40 a day.

  • I'm really late to this, but I wanted to chime in.  I'm in Carmel and I pay $150 a week.  I provide diapers, wipes, formula and baby food. Once she starts eating table food, she'll provide breakfast, lunch and 2 snacks a day.  She's not licensed though (although I didn't really care about that bc I've met with her multiple times and took Ashlyn over there a few times to hang out and get to know her).

    Good luck!
