I have mine tomorrow and I really don't know what to expect.
How gross is the drink? I have orange flavor?
Were you allowed to eat/drink before the Glucose drink?
Do they just draw your blood to determine if you might have Gestational Diabetes?
Suggestions?
Re: Tell me about the Glucose Test
Mine was a fasting lab. So I could not eat/drink anything for 12 before, except water. Did your Dr. not tell you that? I had the org drink it wasn't too bad. So you drink the drink then wait an hour then they draw your blood.
I think you need to call your Dr/ nurse to make sure if it is a fasting lab.
It's not that bad. The drink is like flat pop. Kind of gross but if you just chug it, it's not bad. My doctor suggested having toast before mine. Take a snack with you so you can eat right after your blood draw, you might feel a little light headed.
You drink the stuff, wait one hour, have your blood drawn. If something unfavorable shows up, they'll do another test.
it was nothing.
The drink tasted like orange soda.
I ate a normal breakfast and the dr. never told me to do otherwise.
They drew my blood and the results were back in a day or two.
They said I could eat and drink before the test, but a friend of mine said that sometimes a high sugar breakfast can cause the results to change. I was just curious as to what your doctors said.
my 1 hours I never needed to fast. I only had to fast for the 3 hours.
for the 1 hours my doc said "eat like normal"

I am in the southwest burbs.
Am i the only person who had an instant read result? They pricked my finger, and got a result and I was done.
Mine is tomorrow morning at 8:15. I usually prefer the orange or lemon lime as opposed to the fruit punch. It isn't too bad. My lab gives you 5 minutes to drink and then they draw your blood after an hour.
I am allowed to eat a small meal in the morning. (No sweets or juices so I'll probably eat protein and a piece of whole wheat toast.)
I had both a 1 hour and a 3 hour earlier in this pregnancy. I fasted for both and the orange drink tastes a lot like Hi-C Orange that you get at McDonalds lol!
It was easy as pie. So many ladies here freak out about it (at least I have read some of them freaking out). I think just the results may be a bit worrisome, but not the test.
My Doctor told me I should try to fast but if I needed to eat something I should eat nothing that contains sugar like bread, cerial etc. He said eggs were okay to eat. So I ate an egg for breakfast and drank lots of water until I got to the lab.
They gave me an orange drink (tastes like flat soda) and said I had 5 min. to finish it. Waited one hour and had blood drawn. The Doc. should call me in 2 days if there is something wrong or I could call in to get my results.
Good luck with yours!
Just a warning..not all people get this but, I got the shakes afterward. I sat there for a while before getting in my car to leave. I did it twice (tested at 20w and again at 25w) with my last pregnancy and both times it happened.
Blessing to you!
This. Way easier than I thought it would be after all the freak out. yes the drink is really sweet, but not bad or anything and you have a full 5 min to drink it. It did feel weird in my stomach afterwards though. Fortunately I'm not the naseous type.
I had cheerios the morning before mine, my doctor said that they don't have sugar? Ok, whatever. I hear eggs are normally a good but too, and some protein probably would have helped me avoid the weird feeling in my stomach after I drank it too.
For me the 1 hour was bad because the drink was warm, i almost puked, but the 2 other times (yes 2 sigh..) I've taken it, they gave me the drink cold and it actually tasted good and I drank it down really fast.
Sadly at my last 3 hour they messed up something and I have to go back and do a 3 hour again. They are the worst, nothing like having your blood drawn 4 times and not being able to eat for like 15 hours. >_<
