2nd Trimester

my midwife is mad at me. :(

As some of you know, im getting braces on friday, eek! Well they put the spacers on me last friday so ive been living off of soup and yogurt... well because of that, i lost 3 pounds this week.. so technically im back to 0 pounds gained.

My midwife seemed all pissed at me saying things like "youre measuring small, you better start gaining..." and i replied and said "i thought you only wanted me to gain 15-20 anyways due to being a little overweight from last pg?" ... yea, then she glared at me...

*Btw, DS measured perfectly at the anatomy scan and weighed 8oz... my OB doesnt seemed concerned at all.

i think i want to switch midwives. annoying.  Anyone switch midwives or doulas halfway through? was it a hassle? Should i just stick it out?

  • I would kick her ass to the curb.

  • I say stick it out unless there are other issues.  She's just doing her job - you should be gaining weight and you aren't...

Reminds me of when I went to a new dentist and he didn't say to floss more, I thought the guy was an idiot.  It's annoying to hear, but it's still their job to tell you!

  • If you're unhappy with her, switch. No need sticking with someone who's upsetting you unless you think you can stick it out with her.

yea, thats a good point. Im a big girl. Guess i can deal with her once a month.

  • what a B!  I've only gained 5 lbs with this pregnancy, but am like you where I started with leftover baby weight and only want to gain 10-15lbs total.  My OB hasn't said anything about my weight either.

  • I'm 23 weeks and I'm currently in the process of completely switching from my ob and clinic to a midwife at a birthing center. If you don't feel comfortable with where you're at I don't think it's really too late to switch any time in your pregnancy, it's just a pain in the butt.

  • I didn't hear your tone of voice so it is hard to judge correctly but is it possible she thought you were just being a smart a$$? I also can't tell from your post if you even told her you had trouble eating because of your braces. These kinds of situations are hard to determine but it seems to me a lot of girls on here will switch OB or midwife for small things. I understand not wanting a bad birthing experience but I also think that many times things can be misconstrued easily and she could end up being the midwife of your dreams that you cast aside because you didn't express your feelings with her. Talk to her about it and if she is still being a b!tch to you then look elsewhere.

  • if you are stewing and feel like you will hold a gruge or are uncomfortable with her now, I'd switch.

But chances are you'll feel better, gain the weight back as soon as you eat normally for a few days, she will be happy and you will again feel comfortable with her.

  • major props to you for starting braces while pregnant!
