Cloth Diapering

wool questions

I am trying to build a stash before l/o gets here, so I probably only have until this coming thursday..

I read alot of wool. I dont really get it. Do you just buy fitteds and a wool cover? Does the wool have to be changed with each fitted change? What do you love as far as wool and fitteds. websites would be greatly appreciated!

Thank ladies! I swear when I get the hang of this I wont be so annoying

Re: wool questions

  • You can use wool over anything (as pants) but most people use it over PFs or fitteds, especially fitteds for night when they are STTN.

If the wool is poopy, you need to wash & relanolize...so, it will be awhile before LO can wear again.  Once they aren't pooping as often, though, you don't have to wash very often at all.  If it's totally dry, you could reuse at a changing, but if it is damp, you will want it to air dry a bit before putting it back on.  Right now I only have 1 wool (Disana), but I almost feel like you need 2 or more if you are going to bother at all, so that you can let them dry, etc., and since I use one of his few "non-onsie" outfits when I put the wool on.

Wool is awesome, but it can get expensive, so I'm not sure I'd buy it for a brand new NB.  Our Disana's say 6-12 months, but I've heard they run small, and we started using them on him about 11 or 12 lbs, and they work.

  • Wool is something you can ease into later when you get it.

You can use a wool cover in place of a PUL cover for prefolds or fitteds.

The wool doesn't have to be changed with each fitted change. If it's damp but not smelly, I'll hang it somewhere to dry out and will sometimes put a different wool cover on.

I have a Swaddlebees wool wrap I haven't lanolized yet, but I like the look of it. My go-to wool right now are a couple of longies and a shortie I got either on Etsy or Swap Spot.

It takes a while to get the hang of things. No worries.
