Creating an online registry?

I posted this on the Baby shower page too, but I need help. Is it appropriate to create an online registry? I have a lot of older family members that would not use it (they aren't internet savvy) but I think it would be a good way to make a list from several places that have what I like. I like baby bedding from an online site, Target for prices, BRU for selection, etc. Has anyone done this and what were the results? I'd almost like to just give out a Christmas list like I did when I was a kid and on it is everything I want, it can be purchased wherever is convenient for you and wherever the best price is, but obviously that is a little inappropriate. Otherwise, I will probably register at BRU and Target. Also, so many items from both places are only available online, and I don't want to register for only items that can be purchased in stores. Thanks for the advice!
Best of luck! Veronica :)Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

Re: Creating an online registry?

  • Both BRU and Target put your registries online-- and you can add to them online.  You could probably register at online only sites, but don't expect a lot of people to purchase off of those (actually, hardly anyone purchased off my registries anyway, so don't count on that either!).  If the two stores carried duplicate items, I would choose the store that was the cheapest to put it on my registry.

  • I'd say try to minimize the number of stores you register at, as hard as it might be.  Find the ones that carry the most of what you like, and then if there are a few things you love at other stores where you're not registered, just ask specific people for those items or buy them yourselves.  As far as I know, all the stores have online registries, so you can update online and long-distance people can buy online, but less computer-savvy people can buy in the stores.

  • Personally, I dislike BRU, but I registered there as I knew I needed a "real" store for people to shop at.  I used Amazon's universal registry for everything else (including my bedding from Carousel Designs).  My shower is still over a week away, but only about 10 items were bought off of the Amazon one.   But they are all things I really want so I'm still very happy!
