It's confirmed -- I have grand mal seizures and my EEG proved it. I had seizures in my sleep during the EEGl. He wasn't exactly sure what type of seizure disorder I have so I will have a consult with seizure specialist up at St. V's.
Next week, I will have 2 MRIs - one with contrast and one without. I had tons of blood work done today. I will also see my neurologist again next week.
He put me on medication and wants me to take low dose aspirin.
I'm terrified of having more scans bc my paternal grandma died of brain cancer and my uncle (mom's brother) died of brain tumors. They are the only two peopele in my family who have had seizures.
I don't want this. I don't want to have seizures. I don't want to have this disorder. I want to be like I used to be.
I talked to my neuro about the med -- I can get pregnant and safely BF on it so that's lucky.
I know things could be much worse but right in this moment, I'm so upset.
Thanks for reading.
Re: Just got back from the neurologist :(
Nope. He just gave me tons of rules (bathing, cooking, driving, etc.)
Plus if I were to drive and have a seizure Jack and I could be seriously injured or God forbid die. I could also harm other people.
Oregon law says you cannot drive for at least 3 months from your last seizure (which will be 3 months since a couple days ago) only if the meds work obviously.
I'm lucky though because I thought it was 6 months.
I am so sorry that you're going through this. I'll be thinking good thoughts for you. I know you're scared but keep in mind that they can do a lot more for people with cancer now with the medicines and treatments available.

A stowaway on board!
Unless you had a tonic-clonic seizure DURING the EEG there is no way an EEG could confirm them. That just isn't how it works.
Can you explain what the difference is between a tonic-clonic seizure and what she said for those of us not well-versed in seizure speak?
No difference - I guess I am just used to hearing the term tonic-clonic over grand mal.
This. Unless you have epilepsy, in which case sometimes the brain waves are always wonky.
She said she had seizures during the EEG though. I'm confused...
Still wouldn't be able to make a diagnosis on the type of seizures.
I did. My neurologist read the report and told me happened. I had quite a few when I fell asleep during the test for an hour.
It's not possible to have a seizure during an EEG or EKG or whatever it's called?
Real nice....
I hope everything works out and that the tests don't show anything serious, just help clear up what is going on.
Be careful!
ummm... then what - seizures you had during the EEG don't count?
I do agree with PP that you can't have tonic/clonic waves on EEG unless you have having a seizure. You can have abnormal waves on EEG, however. So either there were grand mal seizures (physically) during the EEG or the physician explained the results to the OP in a confusing manner, or she misunderstood.
To the OP, either way, be happy they are taking things seriously with your famnily history and ordering the tests and not just assuming its a seizure disorder. Best wishes.
Yea I know she said that, but a grand mal seizure has lasting side effects for at least a couple of hours......i.e. general confusion, headache, generally not feeling your hottest. She seems like she is 100% fine. ran and posted right away on TB after a tonic-clonic seizure? I don't think so.
Erin, didnt you see her scrambled up words though?? It's proof!! Proof!!
Ah got it. I really know nothing about seizures.
I already said I did NOT have a grand mal seizure today. Apparently people can't read. This is the last I will say of this. Believe me, don't believe me, fine. I know the truth.
