To the Costco/Sam's Club/BJ's shoppers...

What are some of your favorite items to buy? My DH is losing his job next week so my dad has graciously offered to take me to Costco tomorrow to stock up on some groceries. I've never done actual grocery shopping there (just random things I've needed here and there, and diapers and wipes) so I curious as to what you buy for your family at the bulk stores. TIA.

Re: To the Costco/Sam's Club/BJ's shoppers...

  • Cereal, coffee, cleaning supplies, eggs, milk, frozen foods (waffles, etc) cold cuts, bottled water.

  • Sorry to hear about DH's job.

Milk is much cheaper there for us, we buy meat like chicken and hamburger and freeze it.  We get good prices on chips too.  Diapers, wipes.  Shampoo and cond sometimes.  Asprin, body wash, deoderant.

  • We mostly buy Chicken sausage, ground turkey meat, toilet paper, paper towels (although I am thinking about going cloth and not buying any more paper towels), peanut butter, cereal, some fruit, bell peppers, peanut butter, and some spices there, and sometimes milk.

I am sorry your husband is losing his job,

  • Diapers, wipes, lunch meat, laundry detergent, cheese, raw tortillas (we use them for tacos and burritos, turkey roll ups, and even with pbj or nutella for breakfast), gummie vitamins for DS, tampons, gogurt.

  • Bottled water, frozen chicken breasts, veggies, almonds, english muffins. I LOVE going to BJ's. I was just telling DH how we need to make a trip soon. Mostly everything is a good buy there except for paper products like toilet paper and stuff. I always feel like I can get a better deal in a supermarket with coupons. That is very nice of your dad though!

  • Just think about your grocery list for items you buy every time you go to the grocery store... eggs, milk, meat, bread, cheese, cereal, salad dressing, condiments, etc. If they have organic milk, that lasts A LOT longer than regular milk. You can freeze bread and meat. You can also buy items like rice, pasta, pasta sauce, etc. Canned food is good like beans because you can keep it forever.
  • Cereal, huge bags of rice, cold cuts are cheap, oh and we get a ton of chicken breasts, diapers, cleaning stuff, paper goods....
  • Butter, cereal, canned beans and tomatoes, frozen chicken, frozen veggies (broccoli, stir fry), Diet Coke cans, toilet paper, bread, turkey, sometimes cheese, granola bars, frozen tortellini... all kinds of things!

  • Bottled water, toilet paper, paper towels, dishwasher packs, Veggie Straws, butter/margarine, sour cream, chicken breasts, rotisserie chicken, and whatever else I see that looks good.

ETA: Oh and Clorox wipes...I go through those things like crazy!!!

  • I buy meat in bulk, then separate it out into smaller portions and freeze it.
