Okay so last year was my first triathalon and it was pretty concentrated 6 week crash course. I hadn't had real active constant exercise since my twins (3 years prior). I could barely run a mile, and the biking was the hardest part. I was also 16 weeks pregnant when I completed but I think I really did well for it being the first time.
I'm taking the training again - but now with 3 kids I missed a few trainings, however I have hit the gym and I'm comfortable with the 5k run portion as well as the swim.
My triathalon is this Saturday
What recommendations or tips can you give me. (I did a stretching class on Monday, walked a nice brisk 2 miles Tuesday night, did nothing last night.)
TIA!!!!!
Re: Triathalon pro's tips please
Bricks! If you haven't been practicing running when you get off the bike, that can be a real unpleasant surprise.
I always tape a package of ShotBlox to the handle bar on my bike (a ziplock of gummi bears would work too).
Lay out ever piece of tri gear you will need during the race and do practice runs of the transitions.
If the swim is in open water, PRACTICE IN OPEN WATER!!! I cannot stress this enough. Open water is absolutely nothing like being in a pool. Swimming in open water is not something you want to do for the first time on race morning.
Have fun, kick ass and chew bubblegum
I think if your race is on Saturday there isn't really anything you can do now. Other than getting your gear ready. Make sure your bike tires are pumped, googles in good shape etc.
You could practice how you want your transition area to look with where you want to put stuff. What things you want in transition vs on your bike, ie gel's, gus etc.
Good luck!
