My preemie has a cold

I feel so bad for my son. he is only nine weeks old and he has a terrible cold. I took him to the pediatrician and he said not to worry, but how can I not? Should I worry? I am so upset and overwhelmed by this. The NiCU scared us about preemies getting a cold. I need good vibes please.michelle

Hi Michelle! My preemie had a cold when she was about 3-4 months old, and we were told not to worry as well. We were freaked because the MMH NICU does scare the crap out of you about germs (we must have had all of the same nurses, lol), but Corri was fine except for getting REALLY pissed at us when we used the bulb aspirator to suck out her nose. Dont stress, just keep an eye on him, and as long his breathing seems ok, he'll be fine. Corri literally got the cold and got rid of it within 2 days...she's like a mini x-man!

Sorry you are going through this. At 5 weeks old our preemie got a cold. I was a nervous wreck and cannot tell you how many times i called the doctors office after hours. She did fine though- in 7-10 days she was done with it it. we were draining her nose every few hours with the suction. The doctor didn't seem very concerned said if it didn't go away by 10 days to come back and he'd test for RSV but she had the synagis shot so he wasn't concerned.
