Switching Formulas?

I need some help ladies!!

DD has been formula fed for the last 3 weeks and we started on Similac Advanced Easy Shield and she was very gassy and had bad poops! We switched to a generic of the similac and it was even worse! Lots of spitting and constipation.... so again we switched. I tried the Gerber Good Start Gentle formula and she did pretty well on it. However, I have been to several stores and cannot find the orange can anywhere! I talked to Gerber and they said that I could use the green can and there wasn't much difference. So out I go and buy the green can and for the last 48 hours DD has spit up during and after EVERY bottle and screams after she eats!! (not a colic baby, no reflux either!)

We have given her the ready made liquid several times and she has NO problems with those, so I know she's not allergic to milk.

HELP!  How many different formulas should I try?! Did anyone try this many formulas and finally have success!? Any advice would be greatly welcome as I wait for the peds office to call me back!!

Re: Switching Formulas?

  • it can take up to 10 days for a baby to get used to formula, I supplement night feedings with Similac Sensitive (milk based) and it has worked better than normal Similac and Enfamil and even BRU brand. so keep it up, your baby has a sensitive stomach, and needs time to adjust to new food.

  • My LO does well on Enfamil Gentlease
  • We too have had a lot of success with Enfamil Gentlease.
  • I tried many formulas myself. I gave each formula about 5-7 days to work each unless LO screamed right away and I stopped. It is all trial and error. I found out that soy based were awful and lasted a day - those were the ones he screamed. I tried gentlease parent's choice and enfamil, BRU brand, giant brand, the real expensive stuff (lo was really constipated). We found that similac sensitive and brita water did the trick. Recently he got constipated again so I started warming his bottles (and using aquafina water) and within an hour, it did the trick. Lots of trials and lots of errors.
