December 2010 Moms

So...Ive decided/realized...

I preface this by saying that I completed my final RN preceptorship yesterday. This weekend was L&D/NICU....

So...after the icky, gruesome things Ive seen this weekend. I DO NOT want to deliver a minute before 38 weeks unless my or LOs lives depend on it (No more comments about being uncomfortable, so wanting to deliver early...aint happening).

I have also decided...I will show up on my OBs doorstep at home to ensure that HE is the one that delivers me...no surprise OBs that could give 2 hoots about the end product and just want to 'get baby out and go home'.

I also realized...L&D Nurses work HARD...you dont realize how much they really do unless you follow one for a day (or two or four)--even if this is your 3rd child. AND although common belief may be that L&D nurses opinions fall along the lines of these grumpy old OBs that 'just want to get the babies out'....they DONT...they CARE...and the ones I met were quite the opposite. Quite the patient advocates, just not right in front of the patients.

So...those are my epiphanies (sp?) of the day...Ive spared you all the nasty details, but I really did get to see why the 'Business of Being Born' (not the documentary) is not all puppies and kittens. Stuff goes WRONG, QUICKLY...and this has officially made my idea of an official birth plan go right out the window...My plan=get baby out safely...
