Multiples

Any MoMs use cloth diapers?

DH and I were actually considering trying cloth diapering the triplets.  Are we totally crazy, considering that we still have a 18mo. old in diapers already?  (she's starting to potty train now, so we'll keep her in disposables)

Do any of you guys cloth diaper now, or try it with your multiples and give up, or decide wholeheartedly 'No Way!'?  I've been lurking on the CD board and doing some research on my own, but thought I'd ask here to get a MoMs view.

TIA!

Re: Any MoMs use cloth diapers?

  • We do and I love it! We use GroVia and BG 3.0 Love them!

If I were you I would use sposies till they can fit into the One Size dipes... You can e-mail me tagsale1221@yahoo.com if you want more info

  • We do and also love them. We use BG and FBs. I'm starting to like the FBs better. Now doing an extra load of laundry every few days isn't bad at all but the first few months it was hard and my mom ended up helping a bit.

  • We do, and it's great.  I can't tell you how much $$ we've saved, not to mention the other benefits (less diaper rash, fewer poop blowouts, no chemicals on baby bums, etc).

  • I do and we also love it.  So far we have not had any diaper rashes.  I only had 2 blowouts and both times were with disposables.  I waited until the boys were about 2 months old or 10 lbs. each to start cloth.  I use BG 3.0's and 4.0's.  I have about 36 diapers and yes the upfront cost is steep about $400-$500 depending on your stash, but I know in the long run it will save us a ton.

  • Also considering. What does FB on BG mean?
  • Awesome!  Thanks, ladies!  I'm actually thinking this could be a good thing! Smile

Do you guys have suggestions for which cloth diaper we should start with that the easiest/most-like disposable (unctionality, ease of use, etc.)?  With triplets, and a DH that HATES diaper duty, if this is to work, I'll need something most like a disposable as far as getting it prepped and on the babies (I'll take care of the washing Wink)...

I was looking at BG (BumGenius, I think) and GroVio, but which do you think would be better for what we're looking for?  AIOs or Pockets?  are  there are other brands that you'd recommend?

Thanks so much! And let me know if I need to take this convo over to the CD board!

hinghambride:  I think those abbreviations are for cloth diaper brands - Bum Genius and Fuzzi Buns??

BG = BumGenius, FB = Fuzzi Bunz

OP, I'd recommend either AIOs or pockets.  Personally, though, I much prefer pockets.  IME, AIOs take too long to dry.  Plus, pockets can be stuffed differently if you need a different absorbency (for example - we triple stuff DD1's diapers for overnight use).

Aplix (ie velcro) is most like a disposable.  However, I've come to prefer snaps.  DH prefers velcro, though.

    fuzzibuns and bum genius.

ours aren't here yet, but we are so so so so excited to cloth diaper.  it was not even a question when we found out we were pregnant - both DH and I were CD'd as babies.  It's a matter of personal preference, but I don't think that there are many arguments against using CD.  :)  Someone on this board shared this site with me, and I've found it really helpful.  I've bought quite a few used dipes from mamas there.  Not sure if you're against it, but i haven't had any issues whatsoever.

  • I am going to try to CD my twins.  Glad to see these responses.

I'm going to a local, free class being held by a local retail CD store to learn more about the different options. I think that will really help to see the diapers in person and try them on baby dolls to see how they fit.

  • My SIL has been cloth diapering her premie twins since they were 1 month old. She talked me into it since I'm expecting twins and DS is 20 months.  I've been cloth diapering him full time for 2.5 months now and it's going great.  I also love that once the twins are here I won't have to have diapers for them and diapers for my son!  They can share the same ones.  The laundry is no big deal, just one more little thing to add into your day.  I do mine at night, hang them to dry before bed and by morning they are ready to go!

I really like softbums and they fit 5-35 pound babies!  My SIL and I are both using them and love them and have not had any problems with fit, leak or blow outs.  They are also much more trim them other diapers out there.  They just came out with a new one Softbums Omni that is a pocket diaper that might be easiest for hubby (more similar to sposies).  The Softbums Echo (older version) does not have a pocket.  You can watch a video on their webiste.

  • I just started and love it so far. I use the Bum Genius Elemental All in Ones.
  • Yes I've been CDing my 8 month old twins since about 3 months. I used them on my second singleton too. We use BG 3.0s and really like them. I just try to give myself some grace- some days I don't get them washed and we run out- ok no problem. I just use disposables until I can get them done (I have 4 kids under 5 now). But I pretty much love them and don't find them to be much work at all- esp at first when they were just breastfed and you could throw the diaper into the wash without rinsing at all.
