My DH and I love love love the name Sofia Ellen (Ellen is his deceased mother's name) but I hate how popular Sophia/Sofia/Sofie is. I never wanted to give our child a name that she has to share with other kids in her class!! We have some other options but none are as loved as Sofia. Our middle name choice will be Ellen of Kathryn (my deceased grandmother's name). These are the names we are kicking around:
Sofia Ellen
Matilda Kathryn
Gwyneth Ellen
Tabitha Ellen
Magdalena Kathryn
Delilah Ellen
Thoughts? Thanks!
Re: Girl names
I love Sofia Ellen! I think it is a beautiful name, and the popularity of it doesn't bother me. I realize it is a deal breaker for some though. Our girl name was Sophia Claire at one point.
I also love, love, love Gwyneth! It was on my list too. I just love it, and it is much less popular than Sophia/Sofia if that is what you are going for.
Matilda is cute too.
The others are nms (although I did want my name to be Tabitha when I was a little girl - I think it sounds dated now though).

Gwyneth Ellen. However, I like the flow of Gwyneth Katherine better. I would not use Kathryn with Gwyneth though because the two Y's look funny.
Sofia or Matilda.
FWIW, we only know 1 other Sophia/Sophie, and she's a lot older than DD.
Stick with Sofia! If you love a name, it's lame to trade it simply because of its rank on the SSA list.
And statistically, less people are using the most popular names, anyway. Where being a John 1910 meant being one out of a dozen, being a Sophia today means being one out of maybe two or three. There's a good chance your daughter won't have another girl with her name in her class, though she likely will in her school or grade.
