Strong but irregular contractions? WWYD?

So for the past 2 hours I've been having stronger but very irregular contractions.  Not like I have to breath through them but that I have to pause with what I'm doing to focus a bit more.  The irregularity is what gets me.  Full labor is usually timeable so I was going to wait this out a bit more because my husband is 2 hours away by plane for work.  It's our plane and he's the pilot but it would still take him a while to get home.  Ugh, I don't want to tell him to come home and it's nothing but I don't want to wait too long.  This could all just be nothing, right?  WWYD?

  • Drink a glass of water, lay on your left side and see if they go away or stop. If they do, then its not regular labor and could just be your body prepping for labor!

Try to rest too! You may be in for a fun night!

    This.

I wouldn't call DH home until you try to get them to slow and even then having never had a vaginal birth I wouldn't call him home at this stage of the game.  At 37 weeks it's unlikely that you'd have the baby within 5 hours of arriving at the hospital.

FWIW - I had what you're describing off and on for 3 weeks with Jace and it never became regular.  I spent 4 solid hours breathing thru hard contractions with Jace Christmas morning but he still stayed put until his scheduled section 2 days later.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • You have to do what will put you at ease... Does DH know yet? Maybe tell him and let him decide if/when to come home? Fwiw, I remember getting a bout of irregular, strong, but still relatively painless contractions when we were at a wedding at about 38w. I was kind of freaking out but it turned out to be nothing. But you know your body best! Good luck! Either way, you are getting close!
Brought to you by IVF, ICSI, limited fert, and oocyte cryopreservation.
    Because we're fancy like that.

  • Not sure what you decided to do, but I had moderate to very painful contractions 72 hours prior to my delivery.  The were 5 minutes apart, then 20 minutes apart etc.  When I went int at 40 w 2 days to be induced I was already 5 cm.  SO, these contractions, although sporadic, were definitely doing something!  I would say to go to the doc and have them check you???  Atleast let your DH know..
