Suggestions for 1st birthday gift?

Hi there,

I though I'd ask over here seeing as you laides will know what your kids loved.

So my little friends girl will be turning one next month and we've been invited to the party.

What's a good gift to give? They're good friends, but we don't have a huge budget.

I generally like to give books, but wondered if anyone had other suggestions.

Thanks.

  • DS likes cars and balls.Blocks are also a good gift for that age because they like to start stacking. I like Plan Toys block set of 50. I think they are around $20. I bought them at Amazon. Any of the Plan Toys are great actually. DS is also into trains more recently. Tents and tunnels are also fun.

  • Our girls just turned one.  Some of what we got that they are enjoying-

Melissa and Doug "jumbo knob" puzzles (most puzzles are not for 1 year olds but these are).

Melissa and Doug My first bead maze (again most bead mazes are for older kids, this one is ok for 1 year olds)

Books, books, books- especially big board books they can play with and chew on and push around the room

    Clothes

Blocks- they got "megablocks" which are like giant legos

    Shape sorters

  • My pal violet (Evan has Scout) it's under $20 at Walmart and super cute!!!

    Megablocks, clothes, books

  • Touch and feel books with pictures of animals and babies.  My daughter has no attention span for story time and illustrations right now.  She loves to point at pictures of babies, puppies and kitties.

  • My bestfriend gave my son a Vtech Magnet Fridge toy that he loves. I had never seen one before and am a big fan of it as well. It does ABC phonics and a song. I don't think it was that expenisve either, he also looves his Tickle Me Elmo.
  • I like the idea of giving books. DD is super into books right now. I think a lot of people end up getting toys and clothes and the child ends up with entirely too much of this stuff. My new go to 1st bday present based on my DDs two favorite things- books and putting things into bags- is a cute toddler backpack filled with board books. We buy a lot of DDs books at TJ Maxx, if you have one close by, where they are several dollars less then most stores and have a ton of her favorite author- Sandra Boynton.

  • DD is way into board books, anything musical (xylophone, guitar, etc), and her Little People bus and train. She also likes her mega blocks and any rubber/plastic ball.
