Babies: 0 - 3 Months

baby blues?

Is anyone else feeling sad for no reason pp? I love my baby to death, and its not about him. I think it might be the hormones? I can be feeling fine, and then out of the blue I just get this rush and start crying. My mom is here with me right now helping, and all I keep thinking is how sad I am that she has to leave this weekend. I just need some reassurance that this might be normal?

If anyone has any experience with this, how long did it last? Did anything help?

Re: baby blues?

  • I know exactly what you are feeling. The day we came home is when it started for me. I would just start bawling for no reason - I just felt completely overwhelmed. And then I would think about my husband going back to work and me doing this on my own and it was too much. I think I started feeling better about a week after I had him. Just ask for help when you need it - SLEEP!!! And make sure you eat too, that was a problem for me. I have no appetite ever since I gave birth so I would just not eat and of course I felt worse. Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

  • Mine lasted for almost 3 weeks and it was a gradual process. I didn't feel like myself at all and would also cry for no reason at all. I think part of it was lack of sleep.  Try to get sleep whenever you can, be sure to eat enough, and do something nice for yourself every once in a while!  Also any time you can leave the house, even if you just walk around the block and get some fresh air-- that helped me tremendously.

  • Completely normal! Left Hug

The blues can last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. As long as your not having feelings like your going to hurt yourself or LO then your fine. If they get worse please don't hesitate to call somebody to come help you and call your doc.

Mine called in a Rx and saw me the next day. I was prone to depression so I knew that if/when I got the baby blues then I needed to get help.  The doctors see it all the time so if you need help don't feel bad about asking for help. I went over to a friends house last week to watch her baby just so she could take a long nap and shower. Newborns are a lot to handle.

  • I absolutely went through this.  I'm not totally sure I'm over it, but I feel much better now.  Several friends warned me it might happen.  I would cry and sob over different things.  A few days ago, at about 10 days after delivery I suddenly felt much more like myself, but I think it can last different lengths of time for different people.  It's not fun.  I'm sorry!
  • omg.  so glad to see this post.  when my husband asks me why i'm crying i'm like, "i just love her so much".  just can't wait for it to go away.
  • It was probly 3 weeks for me too....it gets a little better each day. TLike pp said, sleep, take assistance when needed and eat right...it'll pass
  • Mine never went away.  I was still horribly emotional at my six week check up so my dr. decided to prescribe a low dose anxiety/depression medication.  I kid you not, I felt like a different person within 24 hours of the first dose.  Don't feel stupid asking!  If you need the help, you will be so much better off if you get it!
