Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

DD's night time coughing is horrible

we have a cool mist humidifier going, we have the crib wedge in and we give DD breathing treatments in the morning and at night. She doesn't have asthma, but when she gets a cold, she gets really congested. Last night DD was coughing so bad that I was nervous she was going to choke.

I ended up sitting up on the couch all night holding her while she slept because that seemed to help the coughing

Re: DD's night time coughing is horrible

  • DD is sick right now too and has started coughing this morning. Last time she was sick, I called the pedi to find out if anything can be given to babies (last time she had a cough she was 10 months)..he told me Children's Benadryl 1/2 a teaspoon. It will help dry up the shnots, therefore causing less drainage to the back of their throat which makes them cough. It worked wonders! It also helped her sleep a little better.

I hope your DD feels better real soon!

  • Have you tried 1/2 tsp of honey before bed (I forgot to look at your siggie but I assume your baby is 12+ months)?  It works wonders for us even though I doubted it would.  Here's a great article re: the science that backs it up.

  • Ditto on the benadryl. It dried her up so there wasnt' so much drainage and she stopped coughing long enough to get some sleep.

Good luck. Hope your DD feels better soon!
